GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 9

(FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 22-28)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Hayley Macken, Rivier (Sr, S - Clifton Park, N.Y.)

Macken wrapped up her last regular season matches of her career in style, averaging 9.90 assists per set offensively along with per-set marks of 2.50 digs and 0.80 blocks defensively. The senior setter also chipped in with 1.67 kills and 0.50 aces per set to lead Rivier to a 3-0 week over Salem State, Southern Maine and Simmons. 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Elyssa Nicolas, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., DS - San Francisco, Calif.)

Averaged 4.92 digs per set with 10 or more in all four matches .. Started the week with 22 digs vs. regionally ranked Hunter than had 20 more versus Kean ... Produced 12 digs versus Suffolk and 10 more against Saint Joseph's. Also had four service aces against the Monks. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sydney Racevicius, Rivier (Fr, OH - Woodbury, Conn.)

Racevicius once again had a great week for Rivier averaging 2.50 kills/set, 3.30 digs/set, and 1.10 service aces/set helping to lead Rivier to a 3-0 record including a 3-0 sweep over Simmons. 


WEEK 9 HONOR ROLL
Maddie Bromley, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, OH - Truckee, Calif.) - Bromley posted a team best 2.82 kills per set in three matches as the Chargers went 3-1 for the week. She added a team best 12 aces (1.09 aces per set) and 2.82 digs per set (31 total). Her best match of the week came in a 3-2 GNAC win over Norwich. Bromley tied a season-high with 20 kills and added 17 digs and five aces in the win. 

Naarah Cox, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, MB - Boston, Mass.) - Cox averaged 2.08 kills and .85 blocks per set and hit .292 in a 3-1 week for the Chargers. She had at least two blocks in each of the four matches. Cox had a great performance of nine kills and five blocks in a 3-0 loss to a tough Middlebury squad. Her other big match was an 11-kill performance on .333 hitting in a gritty 3-2 GNAC win over Norwich. 

Mary Shelow, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, OH - Miami, Fla.) - Posted double-digit kill totals in all four matches this week for Emmanuel, averaging 3.40 kills per set over 15 sets. The senior recorded a match-high 14 kills against USJ to clinch a GNAC playoff berth for the Saints while also collecting her 1,000th career kill in the process, becoming just the fifth player in EC program history to reach the milestone. She added 14 digs, 10 aces and eight total blocks.

Maria Coniglio, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., OH - Old Bethpage, N.Y.) - Averaged 2.92 kills, 3.1 points, 1.85 digs and a .295 hitting percentage in a 4-0 week that included two wins over regionally ranked schools ... Had a match-high 17 kills and 7 digs at Hunter. Produced eight kills in wins over Kean and Saint Joseph's. Hit .400 in both GNAC matches.

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey continued to lead Regis in both offense and defense over the past week. Tuesday night, against a Fisher team with a winning record, she earned 11 kills, 12 digs, and two service aces. Her fourth kill of the night was also her 300th kill of the season, breaking the Pride single-season record of 299 kills set 15 years ago. For the week she averahed 3.57 kills per set on a .286 hitting percentage as the Pride went 1-3.
