GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 2

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 3-9)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Hayley Macken, Rivier (Sr., S - Clifton Park, N.Y.) 

Macken once again had a solid week leading the Raiders to 3-1 week and a second place finish at the Granite State Challenge. The senior setter dished out 9.79 assists/set while scooping up 1.71 digs/set and chipping in with 20 kills and a .471 hitting percentage. Macken highlighted her week with 50 assists in a 3-2 win against Keene State and a 12.67 assists/set average in a 3-0 sweep of Plymouth State. 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Katharine Journeay, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Hampton, N.H.)

Journeay lifted the Saints to a 2-0 start in GNAC play averaging 5.29 digs per set in wins over Albertus Magnus and Norwich. On the week she finished with 53 digs posting double digit totals of 16, 16 and 21 digs.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sydney Racevicius, Rivier (Fr., OH - Woodbury, Conn.)

Racevicius had a great week for Rivier, pounding out 2.38 kills per set while registering 2.88 digs per set to help the Raiders to a 3-1 week and a second-place finish at the Granite State Challenge. She also chipped in with nine service aces in the four matches played. The first-year player highlighted her week by recording a double-double with 14 kills and 21 digs in a 3-2 win against Keene State. 


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL

Courtney Murray, Colby-Sawyer (Sr., MB - Quincy, Mass.) - Murray led the Chargers with 3.20 kills per set (32 overall) on .429 hitting in a 2-1 week. She hit at least .350 in all three matches and reached double figures in kills twice.

Marissa Cataldo, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr., OH - Melrose, Mass.) - Cataldo powered the Saints to a 2-0 start in GNAC action with strong play on both sides of the net averaging 3.18 kills per set in the frame as well as 3.43 digs per set in GNAC action. She added theee aces for Emmanuel.

Brianna Dawson, Norwich (Jr., DS - Katonah, N.Y.) - On Saturday against Albertus Magnus, Dawson recorded 35 digs in a single match. Not only is that a career-high for the junior, but it also set a new Norwich volleyball record for digs in a match. The previous record was 32, set in 2015. She averaged 6.11 digs per set in an 0-3 week. 

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey helped Regis to a 2-2 week. She reached double figures in kills in all four matches and notched two double-doubles, both on Saturday with 10 kills and 15 digs against Eastern Nazarene and Nichols.

Faith Gray-Williams, Simmons (So., S/OH - Las Vegas, Nev.) - In 10 sets over three matches, the sophomore averaged 3.30 kills, 3.90 assists, 0.50 aces, 1.70 digs and 0.40 blocks to go with a .215 hitting percentage and 4.0 points per set as part of a 2-1 week for the Sharks.
