GNAC Featured In NCAA News
The GNAC was featured in the NCAA news yesterday, March 26, 2009, for the efforts of the women's basketball teams over the past season. The womens' basketball teams participated in the GNAC "Passionate Purple" week in January to help support lupus awareness and the WBCA "Pink Zone" week in February to help support breast cancer awareness.

Davis Named Honorable Mention All-American
D3hoops.com recently announced that Emmanuel's Iman Davis (Toms River, N.J.) was named an Honorable Mention to their All-American Team. Davis is a D3hoops.com 1st Team All-Northeast Region selection. During 2008-2009 season, the junior guard led Emmanuel to its 13th Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship and 14th NCAA Tournament appearance. Davis led the 22-8 Saints in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. She was named the GNAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year and received conference Player of the Week honors four times. Davis was also an ECAC Player of the Week selection and was named the GNAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Emerson Women's Basketball Season Ends in ECAC Semi-final
The Emerson College Women's Basketball team dropped a 52-43 decision to eventual champion WPI in the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Division III Tournament Semi-Finals at Worcester on Saturday. The loss ends the season for the Lions with a 21-9 record, which is the best record in the history of the program.

Amherst Ends Saints' Season In NCAA 2nd Round Game
The Amherst College women's basketball team earned a 76-37 win over Emmanuel College on Saturday evening in LeFrak Gymnasium in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With this win, the Lord Jeffs improve to 27-2 on the year and advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, while the Saints' impressive season comes to a close at 22-8.

Saints Nip Huskies; Emmanuel Advances to Round of 32
The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball Team pulled off an upset in the NCAA Tournament's opening round with a 55-49 win over the University of Southern Maine at Amherst College's LeFrak Gymnasium on Friday evening. Sophomore shooting guard Kristin LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) poured in 22 points to lead the Saints past the Huskies, as Emmanuel advances to the NCAA round of 32. With the win, Emmanuel improves to 22-7, while USM ends the season at 22-7. The Saints will now face host Amherst College in the NCAA Regional Final on Saturday (3/7) at 5 p.m.

Emerson Women's Basketball Advances in ECAC Tournament
The Emerson College Women's Basketball team has advanced to the semi-final round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Division III Championship Tournament. The sixth seeded Lions upset third seed Endicott College 76-66, and will now play at number two WPI at 2p.m. Saturday.

Emmanuel To Take On Southern Maine In NCAA Tournament
Emmanuel College will take on the University of Southern Maine in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament. The tournament field of 63 teams was announced on Monday morning. The tournament bracket pairs the 21-7 Saints up against the 22-6 Huskies on Friday night (3/6). Amherst College earned the top seed for the regional and will host both opening round games. The Lord Jeffs of Amherst (25-2) will take on the Babson College Beavers (20-8) in the other opening round match-up. The two winners will square off on Saturday afternoon (3/7) for a trip to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen.

Emmanuel Upends Emerson To Win GNAC Championship
The Emmanuel College Women’s Basketball Team won the program’s 13th Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating the 2nd-seeded Lions of Emerson College, 51-40. Sophomore guard Kristin LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) scored a game-high 20 points, hitting 17 of 18 from the free throw line, to lead the top-seeded Saints. Emmanuel (21-7) will now advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 14th time in program-history. Emerson (20-8) will receive a bid to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament.

Emmanuel College Set to Host GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals and Finals
Emmanuel College will host the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinal and championship rounds at the Jean Yawkey Center between Feb. 27-28. Emerson College, Norwich University, and Johnson & Wales University each advanced to the semifinals with a victory last evening to join the Saints. Top-seeded Emmanuel College and fourth-seeded Johnson & Wales University will square off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night, while second-seeded Emerson College and third-seeded Norwich University will play at 8 p.m.

Mount Ida's Cherie Parisi Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone
Mount Ida College women's basketball junior forward Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) is the newest member of the Mustang 1,000 point club. With 8:51 left in the first half during Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up against hosting Suffolk Univeresity, Parisi made a free throw for her seventh point of the game and 1,000 of her career as a part of the women's basketball program.

2008-2009 GNAC Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2008-2009 GNAC Women's Basketball Playoff pairings are now available. The reigning 2008 GNAC tournament and regular-season champions Emmanuel College Saints are seeded first. The Saints clinched first place with an outstanding 11-1 conference record and 18-7 overall record. The Saints only loss came to Emerson College (18-7, 10-2), who with the win over Albertus on Saturday tied for 2nd in conference play with Norwich (17-6, 10-2). The Lions defeated the Cadets in regular season play giving the Lions the 2nd place seeding in the tournament and the Cadets 3rd.

Carpenter Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District
Rivier junior Blair Carpenter (Meredith, NH) has been named to the 2009 ESPN the Magazien/CoSida Academic All-District Basketball Team College Division Third Team. This is the first national academic award for the Rivier College athletic department. Blair was the college's first Academic All-America nominee last season. Carpenter boasts a 3.806 GPA as an Elementary/Special Education major. She currently leads the teams with a 17 points per game average. She is also pulling down 5.2 rebounds per outing from the shooting guard position. Carpenter eclipsed the 1000 point plateau earlier this season and has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week.

Dennis Breaks GNAC All-Time Blocks Record
Pine Manor College senior Amanda Dennis broke the GNAC all-time blocks record last night. She has 200 blocks over her career surpassing the previous record of 198 blocks held by Emmanuel's LaTeisha Johnson. Dennis has also surpassed the 1,000 point mark and has over 700 rebounds for her career.

GNAC’s “Passionate Purple” Week Raises Over $1,600 for the Lupus Foundation of America
The GNAC effort raised over $1,600 from the 13 GNAC institutions. The GNAC hosted 13 “Passionate Purple” games during the week of January 17th – 24th, 2009. All of the proceeds collected will be donated to the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA). GNAC institutions raised money and awareness in a variety of ways, including inviting individuals with lupus to speak at games, wearing purple socks, asking fans to wear purple, collecting gate proceeds, and selling t-shirts.

Amanda Dennis Earns Three Top 10 Spots in Pine Manor History Book
Going into the winter break, Senior Amanda Dennis (Haverhill, Mass.) has earned three top 10 spots in the Pine Manor record book. Dennis has 1,010 points (9th all-time), 607 rebounds (6th all-time) and 165 blocks, which places her first in Pine Manor history. For her efforts, Dennis was named Pine Manor and Great Northeast Player of the Week for December 15, 2008.

Emmanuel College's Yosinoff Notches 600th Career Win
BOSTON – Emmanuel College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Andy Yosinoff led the Saints to a 73-59 win over Lesley University in Tuesday night’s non-conference match-up. This win marked the 600th career victory for Yosinoff. With Yosinoff eclipsing this milestone, he is now in an esteemed class of just five Division III women’s basketball coaches to ever accomplish the feat.

Jeremy Shannon continued his amazing early season run in Emerson's only game of the week, a road loss to Babson College. He scored 42 points on .682 shooting from the field (15-22) including 2-4 from three point range, and .909 shooting from the line. He also had nine assists making him responsible for 60 of Emerson's 89 points in the game. While Lasell's Shauna Kelly recorded her first double-double of the season, and fifth straight game scoring double digits as she recorded 21 points and pulled down 11 boards against MIT. Kelly also went 100% from the free throw line and had two assists for Lasell.

Lasell's Shauna Kelly Named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week
Shauna Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week for her outstanding performances in the Lasers’ first four contests this season. Kelly averaged 20.5 points per game, shooting 48.1% from the field, and totaling 82 points. Kelly recorded a game, season, and career best 27 points against Roger Williams this week, going 17-19 from the line. Through the first four contests, Kelly has shot 30-36 form the line, at 83.3%. Kelly also averaged 5.0 rebounds this week, with ten offensive and ten defensive boards, as well as picked up 9 assists and 6 steals.

Emmanuel College, the reigning 2007-2008 GNAC Women’s Basketball Champions, earned the number one spot in the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s basketball coaches’ preseason poll. The Saints earned ten first place votes for a total of 154 points to outpace the rest of the field.

The GNAC Announces the 2007-2008 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced their 2007-2008 women’s basketball all-conference team. Two players from regular season champion Emmanuel made the first team, Player of the Year sophomore guard Iman Davis, and senior guard Jade Paez, who gained her third first team berth, only the fourth women’s player in league history to do so. Rounding out the first team were Nikki McClease of Albertus Magnus, the Rookie of the Year who led the conference in both scoring with 18.7ppg and rebounding with 14.1rpg, Alexia Ramirez of Johnson & Wales and Carolyn Freeman of Saint Joseph’s (ME).

Emmanuel Captures 2008 Women's Basketball Championship
Boston, MA - The top-seeded Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team upended 2nd-seeded Suffolk University, 70-51, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship Game. This is Emmanuel's second-straight GNAC title and the twelfth in program history. The Saints will now receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
