GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 3

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 10-16)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Maria Coniglio, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr, OH - Old Bethpage, N.Y.)

Averaged 3.70 kills, 4.2 points and 2.90 digs in a 4-0 week, including two teams that advanced to the 2017 NCAA Tournament...Produced a 16-kill, 11-dig double-double against Babson. Started the week with 11 kills and 8 digs versus Endicott. Notched 7 kills and 6 digs and a .467 hitting percentage in just two sets at Norwich.

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Elyssa Nicolas, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So, DS - San Francisco, Calif.)

Nicolas averaged an impressive 7.17 digs per set in a 4-0 week. Had 20 or more digs in three matches, topped by 25 versus Babson. Had 23 versus Clark and 20 against Endicott. Moved into the top 40 nationally at 5.41 digs per set.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kiana Perez, Lasell (Fr., OH - Juncos, Puerto Rico)

In a 2-2 week, Perez averaged 4.07 kills and 2.14 digs per set with a .268 attack percentage. She averaged 4.33 kills per set with a .269 attack percentage and 2.00 digs per set in Lasell's two GNAC wins. Her top matches included 22 kills, a .340 attack percentage and 12 digs in a loss to Wentworth, and 19 kills, a .486 attack percentage and six digs in a GNAC win over Suffolk.

 


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL

Marissa Cataldo, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, OH - Melrose, Mass.) - Cataldo put together a strong all-around performance for the Saints averaging 3.50 kills and 2.50 digs per set over eight sets. 

Katharine Journeay, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, OH - Hampton, N.H.) - Journeay averaged 5.38 digs per set in a 1-1 week, registering 43 digs over the two matches. The senior captain collected 21 digs in a 3-0 victory over Becker before recording 22 digs against Curry . Against Curry, Journeay notched her 1,000th career dig becoming just the eighth player in program history to reach the milestone.

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey led Regis to a 3-1 week, averaging 3.07 kills and 2.53 digs per set while hitting .226. Tuesday at NEC, she finished with 14 kills and eight digs as the Pride pulled out a 3-2 road victory over the Pilgrims. 

Taylor Dunster, Rivier (Jr, OH - Sutton, Mass.) - Dunster had a great week helping Rivier to 2-1 record including their first GNAC win of the season. The junior outside hitter averaged a balanced 3.0 kills/set, 3.50 digs/set, and .70 aces/set in 10 sets played. Dunster highlighted her week with a double-double registering 16 kills and 14 digs while also dropping 3 services aces in a tough 3-1 loss to Roger Williams. 

Amanda Fortune, Simmons (Fr, MB - Round Rock, Texas) - In 11 sets over three matches, the first year averaged 3.4 points per set on 2.27 kills, 0.91 blocks and 0.36 aces per frame to go with a .283 hitting percentage and 0.73 digs. 

Kelsey Bickford, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, OH - Somersworth, N.H.) - Bickford averaged 3.33 kills per set in a 2-1 week for the Monks. On Saturday, the junior outside hitter boasted 15 kills in a victory over USJ and followed up with 10 kills, 11 service aces, and seven digs in a triumph over Mitchell.

Jennelle Thompson, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, LB - Rochester, N.H.) - Thompson averaged 6.33 digs per set in a 2-1 week for the Monks and tallied 31 digs in a 3-1 win over USJ on Saturday.
