GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 8

(FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 15-21)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Courtney Collins, Rivier (Gr, MH - Litchfield, N.H.)

Collins led Rivier to a 4-0 week, including two GNAC wins, to clinch the No. 2 seed in the GNAC Tournament for the Raiders. She averaged 3.33 kills per set with a .314 hitting percentage on offense while averaging 1.50 blocks per set on defense. Collins highlighted her week with 15 kills and seven blocks in a 3-1 win against her undergrad alma mater Keene State. She appeared in 70 total matches from 2014-16 with the Owls. 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Morgan Flynn, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, LB - Reading, Mass.)

Flynn led the Chargers in a 1-1 week with 5.67 digs per set. She had a match best 19 digs in a tough 3-1 loss at Southern Maine and followed with a match and season-high 32 digs in a come from behind 3-2 victory at Emmanuel. 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Avery Pollard, Rivier (Fr, S - Ballston Lake, N.Y.)

Pollard did it all for the Raiders in an unbeaten week, averaging 1.91 kills (.214), 1.64 assists, 0.73 aces, 4.09 digs and 0.82 blocks per set. She recorded 10 kills, seven assists, 14 digs, five service aces, and four blocks in a 3-1 win over Emerson. Pollard then held down the defensive specialist position scooping 24 digs in a 3-1 win over Keene State. Finally, the she played two sets as a hitter opposite and a third set as the primary setter to record 7 kills, 7 assists, 7 digs, and 3 blocks in a 3-0 win over Saint Joseph's (Maine).


WEEK 8 HONOR ROLL
Naarah Cox, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, MB - Boston, Mass.) - Cox was second on the team with 2.56 kills per set for a total of 23 in a 1-1 week for the Chargers. She averaged an impressive 1.89 blocks per set to finish with four block solos and 13 block assists. Cox opened the week with nine kills and six blocks (2s, 4a) in a tough 3-1 loss at Southern Maine. She finished with 14 kills and 11 blocks (2s, 9a) in a 3-2 come-from-behind win at Emmanuel. 

Morgan Flynn, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, LB - Reading, Mass.) - Flynn led the Chargers in a 1-1 week with 5.67 digs per set. She had a match best 19 digs in a tough 3-1 loss at Southern Maine and followed with a match and season-high 32 digs in a come from behind 3-2 victory at Emmanuel. 

Mary Shelow, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, OH - Miami, Fla.) - Despite seeing limited action early in the week in non-conference play, Shelow was able to accumulate 36 kills over three matches including a new career-high of 24 winners on Saturday vs. Colby-Sawyer. She averaged 3.27 kills per set (.193 overall) on the week while also collecting 13 digs and seven blocks.

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey led Regis offensively and defensively as the Pride went 2-1 over the past week. Wednesday against Anna Maria, she earned 16 kills while making just two attack errors for a career-high .609 hitting percentage. For the week, she averaged 4.64 kills (.238 overall) and 4.00 digs per set. 

Erin Olson, Saint Joseph's (Maine)  (Sophomore, MB - Stoughton, Mass.) - Olson posted a .313 attack percentage with 34 kills and just nine errors in 80 attempts with 14 total blocks (11 solo) in a 3-1 week for the Monks. In a comeback 3-2 win over Framingham State on Thursday, the sophomore middle blocker boasted 11 kills and seven total blocks.

Dakhensey Marcellus, Suffolk (So., L - Brockton, Mass.) - Marcellus averaged 5.00 digs and 0.63 aces per set in a 3-1 week. 

Talia Lombardo, Suffolk (Sr., S - Windham, N.H.) - Lombardo averaged 8.38 assists and 2.35 digs per set in a 3-1 week for the Rams.
