GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 1

(FOR THE WEEK OF AUG. 31-SEPT. 2)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brylee Frank, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., S - Palm City, Fla.)

Named to the Pacific Coast Classic All-Tournament team. Averaged 10.25 assists, 1.88 kills and 3.25 digs as the Wildcats when 3-1, including a win over No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps ... Had the first triple-double in school history with 41 assists, 11 kills and 14 digs against CMS ... Had four double-doubles, including 44 assists and 16 digs against La Verne.

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Elyssa Nicolas, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., DS - San Francisco, Calif.)

Averaged 5.50 digs per set as the Wildcats went 3-1 during the Pacific Coast Classic. Had 25 digs in the win over No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Posted 27 digs in the win over La Verne, the second-highest total of her career. Started the year with 24 digs against Cal Luthern.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Maddie Bromley, Colby-Sawyer (Fr., OH - Truckee, Calif.)

Bromley led the Chargers to a 2-2 record at the DeSales Invitational. She recorded a team best 2.5 kills per set (40 total). She also was second on the team with .38 blk/s (6 block assists) and 2.38 dig/s (38 digs). Her best match came in a 3-2 win over Baruch when she posted 16 kills on .317 hitting to go along with 15 digs. 


WEEK 1 HONOR ROLL

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey picked up right where she left off as Regis' top player, notching a double-double with 14 kills and 22 digs in the Pride's five-set contest against Eastern Connecticut State. 

Hayley Macken, Rivier (Sr., S - Clifton Park NY) - Macken recorded 20 or more assists in all 4 matches for the Raiders averaging 7.38 assists/set while scooping up 3.23 digs/set on defense. The senior setter was named to the Kean Invitational All Tournament Team.

Janell Molina, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., LB - Honolulu, Hawaii) - Molina led the Blue Jays defensively averaging 4.14 digs per set in USJ's season-opening tri-match split on Saturday when they hosted Bay Path and UMass Dartmouth. 

Faith Gray-Williams, Simmons (So., S/OH - Las Vegas, Nev.) - In four matches and 17 sets, the setter averaged 3.29 kills, 4.18 assists, 1.88 digs, 0.29 blocks and 0.47 aces per set to go with a .120 hitting percentage and 3.9 points per set. The setter made her season debut with an outstanding offensive performance, spiking for a career-best 21 kills to go with 19 assists and five digs vs. Salve Regina at the Colonial Classic on August 31.
