GNAC Softball Report: Week 9

( FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 22-28 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr., OF - Cambridge, Mass.)

Closed out the regular-season with a monster week, batting .611 (11-for-18) with 14 RBIs and 11 runs scored. The junior belted seven extra base hits including four home runs, highlighted by a game-tying grand slam in the seventh inning of a 12-10 come-from-behind victory over JWU. On the week, she slugged a gaudy 1.444 while posted a .632 on base percentage, adding three stolen bases and a walk in a 6-0 week for Emmanuel.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Megan Kieselback, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr., SP - Wethersfield, Conn.)

Posted a 3-0 record on the week to help Emmanuel clinch the top seed in the GNAC North Division. Kieselback tossed a pair of one-hit, complete-game shutout wins over Saint Joseph's (ME) and Anna Maria College while also hurling a complete-game victory over JWU. The senior collected 19 strikeouts over 19 innings of work while posting a 0.37 ERA and holding opponents to a .109 batting average.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Maddie Castigliego, Simmons (First Year, P - Bristol, R.I.)

The first year appeared in four games and hit .667 (6-9) with nine runs batted in, a double, a triple and a home run to go with four runs scored, while owning a 1.333 slugging mark and a .667 on-base percentage to give her a 2.000 OPS. The pitcher registered at least one hit and one RBI in every game she had a plate appearance in. Castigliego was outstanding from the pitching circle as well, making four appearances, including three starts and posted a 4-0 win-loss record, while recording a 0.90 earned run average, allowing just three earned runs on nine hits and nine walks to go with 14 strikeouts over 23 1/3 innings pitched. She tossed three complete games and yielded four or fewer hits in all of her appearances and held opponents to a .111 batting average. 


WEEK 9 HONOR ROLL

Laura Anderson, Albertus Magnus (Jr., P - East Haven, Conn.) - In her four appearances of the week, Anderson hurled four complete games while allowing six runs on 17 hits and four walks in 24.0 innings of work. Anderson struck out 10 batters and finished the week with a 1.17 ERA. At the plate, Anderson batted .435 (10-for-23) behind four-multi-hit games to go along with seven runs, seven RBIs and four walks. She also finished the week with two doubles, a home run and a .652 slugging percentage.

Jess Stettinger, Albertus Magnus (Fr., C - East Haven, Conn.) - Stettinger hit safely in 6-of-7 games with two multi-hit games in a 6-1 week for the Falcons. For the week, she batted .375 (9-for-24) with four doubles, two triples, a home run, seven RBI, eight runs scored and four walks. She was 3-for-8 with two doubles and two RBI in the doubleheader split against Suffolk; she was 3-for-6 with a triple, a home run, four RBI and six runs scored in the GNAC sweep against Anna Maria; she was 1-for-3 in the Falcons' lone win against Lasell; and closed out the week 2-for-7 with two runs scored, two doubles and a RBI in the GNAC sweep against Regis.

Kristin Frost, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., UTL - Pearl City, Hawaii) - Had a 1.84 ERA in three appearances with 28 strikeouts ... Picked up the 1-0 shutout win over #13 MIT by striking out 11 batters ... Recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts to beat Suffolk ... Added five strikeouts against Emmanuel.

Summer Ramundo, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., P/1B - Lincoln Park, N.J.) - Hit .571 with a .600 on-base percentage and 1.143 slugging percentage ... Also pitched in a pair of games, starting game two at Suffolk ... Had four hits in the doubleheader against #13 MIT, including a 3-3 performance with two doubles and a home run ... Had three hits versus Suffolk.

Naomi Rinaldo, Norwich (Sr., DH - Middlefield, Conn.) - Rinaldo went 12-for-21 for a .571 batting average and a 1.333 OPS to lead Norwich to a 4-2 week on the last week of the regular season. She hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season and also picked up five RBIs to move her into a tie for fifth place on the NU all-time list with 92 career RBIs.  

Lauren Del Vacchio, Simmons (Jr., Second Base/Outfield - Murrieta, Calif.) - The senior hit safely in all six games to extend her season-long hitting streak to 11 consecutive games. Del Vacchio batted .500 (9-18), while belting a double and driving in four runs from the leadoff spot to go with four runs scored and five walks. The junior owned a .556 slugging percentage to go with a .583 on-base mark for a 1.139 OPS. The center fielder began the week by going 3-6 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored vs. Lasell College on April 27. She heated up on April 27 vs. University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), going 4-6 with a pair of walks, an RBI and two runs scored. The veteran capped the week by going 2-6 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored at Norwich University on April 28.
