GNAC Softball Report: Week 6

( FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 1-7 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ivy Vann, Simmons (So., OF - Bend, Ore.)

In six games, the sophomore hit safely in five of them, including four multi-hit outings. She batted .579 (11-19) with a walk to post a .591 on-base percentage and cracked four triples and a double to contribute to a 1.105 slugging percentage as part of a 1.696 OPS for the week. The left fielder also scored at least run in every game and finished the week with 11 runs scored, while driving in seven runs and stealing five bases in as many attempts from the two-hole in the lineup. Vann struck out just once in 22 plate appearances and was flawless in the field with three putouts. The second-year player was 5-7 with three RBI, a triple, a double, two stolen bases and four runs scored in a twinbill vs. Eastern Nazarene College on April 3. She set the school record and was one shy of the NCAA record with three triples in game two vs. Regis (Mass.) on April 6 as part of a 4-6 effort that saw her drive in a pair of runs and score five times to go with two stolen bases and a walk vs. the Pride for the day. The outfielder capped the week by going 2-6 with a double, two runs batted in, a stolen base and two runs scored at Albertus Magnus College on April 7.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Megan Kieselback, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr., SP - Wethersfield, Conn.)

Kieselback posted a 3-0 record in the circle over 21 innings of work and added a save for Emmanuel College during a 6-0 week for the Saints. The senior tossed complete-game wins over Emerson and Rivier while also notching a win and a save in two games against Lasell. Kieselback recorded 31 K's on the week (10.33 k/7) including a career-high 14 strikeout performance in the win over Rivier.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Grace Orcutt, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr., 1B/DP - Lexington, Mass.)

Orcutt hit safely in all six games for Emmanuel to extend her hitting streak to 10, going 12-for-20 (.600) at the plate while collecting nine RBI and scoring five runs. The rookie delivered five extra base hits on three doubles and two home runs to help with a gaudy 1.050 slugging percentage on the week. She also threw 1.1 scoreless/hitless innings in the circle, getting a hold in the Saints 11-8 win over Lasell.


WEEK 6 HONOR ROLL

Olivia Burgos, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr., OF/SP - Newington, Conn.) - Burgos hit safely in all six games for Emmanuel, posting a .500 bating average (10-for-20) while scoring 11 runs, driving in five RBI and stealing seven bases. The senior added two wins in the circle, getting a victory vs. Emerson with five scoreless inning in relief in a 7-6 win while also posting a win vs. Rivier.

Avery Webb, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr., C - Hollis, N.H.) - Webb stepped up this week for Emmanuel batting .600 at the plate (6-for-10) and catching three wins behind the plate. The rookie belted two home runs in a 9-3 win over Emerson and on the week drove in seven RBI, scored four runs and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage on 21 putouts.

Kristin Frost, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., UTL - Pearl City, Hawaii) - Threw a pair of shut outs against GNAC teams for a 0.00 ERA ... Struck out eight batters in the win at USJ ... Came back to strikeout three against Lasell.

Summer Ramundo, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., P/1B - Lincoln Park, N.J.) - Hit .563 for the week with a .588 obp and .750 slugging percnetage....Had three multi hit games including three in the second game at USJ and two more in the opener against Lasell ... Had a home run in game one against the Lasers ... Also pitched in three games. Got the win against Lasell.

Dara Kelly, Norwich (Fr., OF - Chesterfield, N.J.) - Kelly had three, three-hit games on the week and helped lead Norwich to a 4-2 record. She went 10-for-20 at the plate and posted a 1.265 OPS for the Cadets. She had a hit and scored a run in every game but one on the week. Kelly was also terrific patrolling center field, including making two diving catches for put outs vs. St. Joseph's (Maine) on Sinday.

Katie Reid, Norwich (Jr., 2B - Gold Canyon, Ariz.) - Reid had a hit in every game and multiple hits in all but one game to help lead Norwich to a 4-2 record on the week. She also had at least one RBI and a run in every game except for one. She posted an of OPS 1.261 and hit a home run with 11 RBIs on the week.

Natalie Amato, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., P - Cheshire, Conn.) - Amato was spectacular inside the circle on the week for the Blue Jays helping USJ to a 4-2 overall record and 3-1 start to GNAC play. In three apperances, the freshman went 2-0 on the week and earned her first career save. She posted a 3.87 ERA on the week in 12.2 innings pitched and racked up 11 strikeouts. Amato opened the week by recording her first career save after closing the door on Elms in a 4-2 win. She followed that up by picking up a win in relief on Saturday versus defending GNAC champions Johnson & Wales. Amato spun the final 4.2 innings versus the Wildcats holding them to just four hits and struck out three as the Blue Jays would walk-off in the bottom of the seventh, 6-5. The Cheshire product then capped the week with what could be her best performance of the year, firing a complete game victory on Sunday at Regis. She allowed just four runs and matched her career-high with eight strikeouts in a 10-4 triumph.

Amaria Sharon, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., P/INF - Tolland, Conn.) - Sharon had an all-time week to help lead the Blue Jays to a 4-2 overall record including a 3-1 start in USJ's opening weekend of GNAC play. At the plate, Sharon slashed an impressive .682/.708/.909 collecting 15 hits over 22 at-bats with three extra-base hits including her first career grand slam. The 5-4 leadoff hitter from Tolland drove in five RBI, scored six runs, and didn't strike out once across 24 plate appearances. She registered a hit in all six games on the week including five multi-hit outings with a pair of 4-for-4 performances. Sharon was impressive inside the circle as well going 2-1 with a 1.24 ERA acrosse three starts for USJ. She allowed just three earned runs over 17 innings pitched and racked up 15 strikeouts incliding seven in a complete game versus defending GNAC champions Johnson & Wales at home on Saturday. The starting shortstop/second baseman, when she is not inside the circle, also had an errorless week defensively in 25 total chances.

Meghan Elliott, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Sr., SS - Mendon, Mass.) - Elliott hit .500 (8-16) with five runs, three doubles, and five RBI with a .556 OBP in a 4-1 week for the Monks. The senior shortstop was 3-for-4 with a run, a double, and an RBI in a 9-1 win at Norwich on Sunday.

Maddie Castigliego, Simmons (First Year, P - Bristol, R.I.) - The rookie was a dual threat for the Sharks, going 3-0 from the pitching circle with a 2.21 earned run average, allowing 19 hits in 19 innings for a .247 opponents batting mark in three complete games, while striking out 19 and issuing just four free passes. She also went 6-11 at the plate for a robust .545 batting mark, while hitting a home run and a triple for a 1.000 slugging mark as part of a 1.545 OPS. The first year also knocked in five runs and scored four times in three games. Castigliego began the week by giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits in seven complete frames and struck out a career-high nine against just one walk in a win over Eastern Nazarene College on April 3 and helped her cause with a two-run homer. The Rhode Island native picked up another win vs. Regis (Mass.) on April 6, yielding just two runs on five hits over five complete frames and fanned six batters, while allowing just two walks. She was 2-3 with a run scored at the plate. To cap the week, she gave up three runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out four in seven innings to earn the win at Albertus Magnus College and was 3-4 with a triple and three RBI to go with two runs scored.

Hailey Yabroudy, Simmons (So., P/1B - Amherst, N.H.) - In three appearances (all starts), the sophomore hurled three complete-game victories and owned a miniscule earned run average of 0.78 (and 0.78 WHIP), while allowing just 13 hits and no walks in 18 innings pitched to hold opponents to just a .194 (13-67) batting mark to go with 10 strikeouts and her first collegiate shutout. The righthander began the week by allowing three runs (two earned) on just three hits and no walks, while fanning four in five innings in an 11-3 victory over Eastern Nazarene College on April 3. The second-year player earned her first collegiate shutout in an 8-0 six-inning victory over Regis (Mass.) on April 6. She gave up just four hits and did not allow a runner past first base for the game, while striking out three batters. The hurler capped her week by giving up three unearned runs on six hits in seven innings, while striking out three in a 6-3 win at Albertus Magnus College on April 7.

Grace Boehler, Suffolk (So., OF - East Freetown, Mass.) - Boehler registered nine hits through four games while driving in five and scoring four runs of her own.

Hannah DelCervo, Suffolk (Sr., P - Meriden, Conn.) - DelCervo collected three wins in the circle and posted a 2.10 ERA.

Brianna Loughlin, Suffolk (Fr., OF - Old Bridge, N.J.) - Recorded the game-winning RBI in both walk-off wins versus Lesley.
