GNAC Softball Report: Week 4

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 18-24 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ivy Vann, Simmons (So., OF - Bend, Ore.)

The sophomore hit safely in three of four games, including a pair of multiple-hit efforts and batted .455 (5-11) for the week, while drawing three walks as part of a .571 on-base percentage to go with a home run to contribute to a .727 slugging mark to give her a 1.298 OPS for the week. The left fielder also knocked in four runs and scored four times, while handling all six chances in the outfield without a flaw, including an outfield assist. Vann began the week by going 1-4 with a walk and a run scored vs. #5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on March 20. She capped the week by going 4-7 with a homer, three RBI and three runs scored vs. 8-0 Brandeis University on March 24.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Alessandra Milardo, St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., P/OF - Plantsville, Conn.)

Milardo picked up her first win of the 2019 season inside the circle in dominating fashion on Sunday in game two versus Bay Path in USJ's lone doubleheader of the week. Milardo fired a complete game, two-hitter and struck out seven Wildcats over five innings of work as the Blue Jays defeated Bay Path 9-0 to even their record to 7-7 on the year. The Plantsville product didn't allow a Bay Path batter to get past second base in the victory, facing just six batters over the minimum and firing 57 strikes in 99 pitches.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Caitlin Murphy, Suffolk (Fr., OF - Abington, Mass.)

Murphy batted .800 in a pair of wins for the Rams on the week as she went 4-for-5 (one double) and combined for three RBIs and one run scored in the sweep of Roger Williams (W, 5-4; W, 4-2). Her two-run double in the second inning gave the Rams' the go-ahead runs they'd need to secure the victory. Defensively, she was perfect in the field on the day with four putouts. 


WEEK 4 HONOR ROLL

Laura Anderson, Albertus Magnus (Jr., P - East Haven, Conn.) - Anderson was 2-1 with three complete games in four appearances (three starts) with a 2.94 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 16.2 innings. She opened the week throwing her second shutout of the season and recorded a season-high eight strikeouts in the 18-0 win over Brooklyn College. In her second complete game of the week, Anderson allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out three. At the plate, she finished with a slash line of .462/.533/.846 to go along with six hits, four runs, three doubles, a triple and two RBI.

Jess Stettinger, Albertus Magnus (Fr., C - East Haven, Conn.) - In a 4-2 week for the Falcons, Stettinger hit an impressive .524 (11-for-21) with a .565 on-base percentage and a .619 slugging percentage. The rookie had four RBI while scoring seven runs and posting two doubles. Stettinger registered four multi-hit games, including a four-hit performance in the 18-0 win over Brooklyn.

Ashley Skey, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr., DP/1B - Brookline, N.H.) - Had a perfect 1.000 OBP over two games for the Saints, reaching base safely in all six plate appearances during a doubleheader against UMass Boston. The senior went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks in a 13-11 slug-fest in game one of the twinbill, scoring a run and also driving in a run for the Saints. In the night cap, the senior drew a walk and was hit by a pitch to keep the perfect OBP on the day alive. She also posted a 1.000 fielding percentage at first base in six chances.

Megan Antaya, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., UT - Somerset, Mass.) - Hit .667 for the week with a .667 obp and 1.000 slugging percentage ...Also had three runs scored and an RBI ... Went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in game one versus Salve Regina ... Had a pair of doubles ... Had a hit and run scored in game two.

Meghan Gavin, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., 3B - Wallingford, Conn.) - Hit .444 with a .444 obp and .556 slugging ... Had two hits in each game against Salve Regina ... Drove in three runs and scored four times herself ... Had a double in game two.

Summer Ramundo, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., P/1B - Lincoln Park, N.J.) - Picked up the 8-2 victory in game one against Salve Regina ... Only gave up two runs with a season-high seven strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

Frankie Ferrante, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., INF - Southington, Conn.) - Ferrante erupted in game two of USJ's doubleheader versus Bay Path on Sunday, its lone of the week, going 3-for-3 with three extra-base hits. Ferrante clubbed a pair of doubles and a triple and drove in a pair of RBI to power the Blue Jays to a 9-0 triumph in game two over the Wildcats. It marked Ferrante's first multi-hit game of her career.

Morgan Skoly, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., OF - Vernon, Conn.) - Skoly did a little bit of everything to help lead the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week and a sweep of Bay Path on Sunday in USJ's lone doubleheader of the week. The veteran centerfielder was nearly perfect at the plate across the two games going 4-for-5 with four singles. She drove in a pair of RBI, scored four runs, and swiped a pair of bases as USJ toppled the Wildcats 4-0 in game one and 9-0 (5) in game two. Skoly opened the doubleheader with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored and two stolen bases before going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and two more runs scored.

Allie Mulhern, Simmons (First Year, SS - Westford, Mass.) - In four games, the first year hit safely in three of them, including a pair of multi-hit efforts and hit .385 (5-13) with a walk to boost her on-base percentage to 429 for the week. The shortstop added two runs batted in, three runs scored and a stolen base. The rookie began the week by going 1-6 with an RBI and a run scored vs. #5 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on March 20. Mulhern capped the week by going 4-7 with a run batted in, two runs scored and a stolen base vs. 8-0 Brandeis University on March 24.

Hannah DelCervo, Suffolk
(Sr., P - Meriden, Conn.) - Tossed a complete-game to earn a 4-2 home win over Roger Williams. DelCervo scattered four hits, issued one walk, and allowed just two runs (one earned) for a 1.00 ERA while fanning six batters.
