GNAC Softball Report: Week 7

( FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 8-14 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Ellery Rasmussen, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., IF - Kingston, N.H.)

Rasmussen was nearly impossible to get out for opposing pitchers over the past week, batting .846 (11-for-13) with five doubles, one triple, and five runs batted in. In Friday's first game against Rivier, she went 3-for-3, driving in the first run of the game with a double and the second run of the game with a single. She drove in Regis' lone run of Friday's second game with a double, eventually going 2-for-3. Sunday, she had two doubles in the first game against Lasell, driving in a run with her first inning double and then scoring later in the inning. She capped the doubleheader with a 3-for-3 performance, doubling in Regis' lone run in the third inning after notching her first triple of the season in the first inning. Rasmussen is now sixth in the GNAC with a .451 batting average and a .620 slugging percentage, plus tied for sixth in doubles with seven. In the field, she was also perfect (5 putouts, 6 assists) in 11 total chances.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Caitlyn King, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Jr., P - Old Town, Maine)

King was dominant in a pair of starts versus conference opponents over the weekend, as the junior posted a minuscule 0.58 ERA and opponents hit just .139 (5-36) against her in triumphs over Rivier and Anna Maria. The junior hurler tossed a five-inning no-hitter versus the AMCATS on Sunday, fanning three batters and allowing just one baserunner on a walk in a 9-0 win.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Grace Orcutt, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr., 1B/DP - Lexington, Mass.)

Orcutt continued her offensive onslaught this week batting .417 over four games with seven RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage. The rookie went 5-for-6 in Sunday's doubleheader against Norwich, connecting on two home runs in the second game including a grand slam. Orcutt also scored three runs on the week while drawing a walk. Defensively, Orcutt was perfect in the field with 12 putouts and one assist in 13 total chances.


WEEK 7 HONOR ROLL

Laura Anderson, Albertus Magnus (Jr., P - East Haven, Conn.) - In her one appearance of the week, Anderson hurled a complete game in the 4-1 win against JWU while allowing one run on seven hits and one walk in seven inning of work. She struck out five batters and finished the week with a 1.00 ERA. At the plate, Anderson batted .308 (4-for-13) with six runs, four RBI and two home runs, extending her season total three. She opened the week 1-for-6 with a RBI, a home run and two runs scored in the doubleheader loss to Coast Guard. She capped the week by going 3-for-7 with three RBI, a home run and four runs scored.

Arianna Genovese, Lasell (Jr., C - Rocky Hill, Conn.) - Hit safely in 5-of-6 games with five multi-hit games in a 2-4 week for Lasell. For the week, she batted .571 (12 for 21) with four doubles, a triple, nine RBI and four runs scored. She was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI in a pair of losses at Fitchburg State; she was 2-for-3 in both ends of a GNAC doubleheader against Saint Joseph (Conn.) with a double and an RBI; and she was 2-for-4 in the opening game win against Regis, driving in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run single.

Madisyn Charest, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Jr., OF - Sydney, Maine) - Charest hit .583 (7-12) with six runs, a double, a triple, and six RBI in four conference victories over the weekend. In a two-game sweep over Anna Maria on Sunday, Charest collectively went 4-for-6 with four runs and six RBI.

Maddie Castigliego, Simmons (First Year, P - Bristol, R.I.) - The first year batted .500 (6-12) with a pair of doubles, three runs batted in, three runs scored and a pair of walks in five games and hit safely in four of them. The pitcher owned a .571 on-base percentage and posted a .667 slugging percentage for a 1.238 OPS. The rookie also made three starts from the pitching circle, posting a 1-1 record to go with a 1.88 earned run average over 18 2/3 innings pitched, while holding opponents to a .216 (16-74) batting mark and issuing seven walks in addition to five strikeouts. Castigliego was 3-4 from the plate and doubled and drove in a run, while hurling five and two-thirds scoreless innings on four hits and five walks to go with a pair of strikeouts on April 11. The first year singled and scored a run vs. Johnson & Wales and held the Wildcats to three runs on seven hits and a walk in seven complete innings and struck out a batter on April 13. Castigliego capped the week by going 2-3 with a double, two runs batted in, a walk and a pair of runs scored at Rivier University on April 14 and earned the victory after yielding two runs on five hits and a walk to go with two strikeouts in six complete innings.
