GNAC Softball Report: Week 5

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 25-31 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Marissa Santoro, Simmons (So., 3B/SS - Franklin, Mass.)

In two games, the sophomore registered multiple hits in both of them and hit .500 (4-8) for the week with a home run, four runs batted in and a run scored, while slugging .875 as part of a 1.375 OPS. The second base was 2-4 with and knocked in two runs in each game of a twinbill with Emmanuel College on March 30 and scored a run on her first homer of the season in the second contest of the doubleheader.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Madi McLellan, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., P - Fremont, N.H.)

McLellan made her first start in the circle since April 18, 2018, and was the stopper for the Pride. She earned a complete-game victory, allowing just four hits and one unearned run in Regis' 5-1 victory over Elms in the second game of a doubleheader, snapping a seven-game losing streak. She struck out three batters without issuing any walks, and she never faced more than four batters in any inning during the game. Of the 90 pitches she threw, 63 of them were strikes. McLellan is working her way back from a knee injury that ended her 2018 campaign.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Grace Orcutt, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr., 1B/DP - Lexington, Mass.)

Orcutt hit safely in all four games for the Saints, posting a .429 average in doubleheaders against Simmons and USJ. The freshman drove in six runs including three in an 8-0 win over the Blue Jays that featured a monster home run in the win. The Lexington, Mass. native added three runs scored while posting a .714 slugging and .467 OBP in a 3-1 week for Emmanuel. 


WEEK 5 HONOR ROLL

Lisa Pare, Lasell (Fr., 2B/SS - Ellington, Conn.) - Went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a doubleheader split against Eastern Nazarene. She was hitless (0-for-1) in the opener before going 2-for-2 with an RBI in the second game. Her RBI single tied the game at 2-2 with two outs in the bottom of the fourth in a 3-2 Laser win.

Ally Mishol, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., 2B - Longmeadow, Mass.) - Hit .375 for the week with a .444 obp and .875 slugging percentage ... Had two hits - including her second home run of the year - with two RBIs and one run scored against Wheaton ... Came around to score in game 2 versus the Lyons .. Had a double against Roger Williams.

Dara Kelly, Norwich (Fr., OF - Chesterfield, N.J.) - Kelly was instrumental in Norwich's sweep over Dean College launching her first collegiate home run, scoring four runs and tallying two RBIs. She posted a 1.222 OPS to lead the Cadets' offense.

Morgan LeBaron, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., OF - Rehoboth, Mass.) - LeBaron has become a constant member of the starting lineup for the Pride. After going 1-for-5 in a doubleheader at Fitchburg State Thursday, LeBaron went 3-for-6 as Regis split a doubleheader with Elms Saturday. In the sixth inning of the first game, she hit a two-run double to close the Pride deficit to 6-4, chasing the Elms starting pitcher. In the second game, she scored the eventual game-winning run in the fifth inning as she went 2-for-3, including her third double of the season. LeBaron is currently second on the Pride with her three doubles.

Allie Petillo, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OF - West Sayville, N.Y.) - Petillo has been the table-setter at the top of the order for the Pride this season. After earning one hit during a doubleheader at Fitchburg State Thursday, she went 4-for-8 as Regis split a doubleheader with Elms Saturday. In the 5-1 win over the Blazers, she drove in a run with a single to extend the Pride lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning. Petillo is currently second on the team with a .308 batting average and 12 hits.

Megan Burke, St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., C/OF - Parkland, Fla.) - Burke had a breakout week for the Blue Jays batting .625 (5-for-8) and clubbed her first career home run in a 1-3 week for USJ. Burke collected hits all three games she played in on the week with two multi-hit games. She opened the week going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored in game two versus Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday, belting her first career home run, a three-run shot, in an 11-3 USJ victory. Burke followed that up with three singles on Sunday in a doubleheader at Emmanuel.

Maddie Castigliego, Simmons (First Year, P - Bristol, R.I.) - The rookie earned a victory from the pitching circle for the Sharks, allowing three runs on just four hits and a walk, while striking out three and holding Emmanuel College to a .160 batting clip in seven complete innings. Castigliego also contributed at the plate with an RBI double and scored a run as well.
