GNAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #12

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Eddie Volkerts, Mitchell (Jr., G/F)

Junior guard/forward Eddie Volkerts had a dominant week for the Mariners guiding them to a 2-0 week after averaging a 29 point, 12.5 rebound double-double. The New London, Conn. native went 12-for-18, scoring 29 points and collecting 12 rebounds, three steals, and four assists, while converting a game-winning layup in overtime to defeat Anna Maria College on the road. Volkerts followed up with 29 points over New England College, going 13-for-18 while snagging down 13 boards and collecting three steals/assists apiece in their home victory. He is currently second in the conference in both total rebounds (191) and rebounds per game (9.1) as well as fifth in points per game (18.5).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Silvano Ismail, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Fr., G)

First-year Silvano Ismail helped the Monks move up to second in the conference standings as the Portland, Maine native put up 14 points on 7-for-12 from the floor along with eight rebounds and three assists in a crucial road victory over Lasell on Saturday.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Ta'Zhon Daniels, Albertus Magnus - Averaged 22.5 points a game with four assists and 3.5 steals in a 2-0 week. Put up 32 points and three steals vs. Emmanuel and followed with 13 points, six assists, and four steals in a crucial home victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), ending their 71-game regular season conference win streak.

Mahari Guerrier, Emmanuel - Went a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor, scoring 24 points and grabbing five rebounds and two steals in a road contest at Albertus Magnus.

Owen Liss, Norwich -  Posted a pair of double-doubles in two GNAC wins for the Cadets. He first went 9-18 from the floor to rack up 23 points and 11 rebounds, alongside three assists and three blocks in a victory at Elms. He followed that up by shooting 57.1% from the floor to finish with 20 points and 14 rebounds to go with five helpers in a dominant victory over Johnson & Wales. On the week, he averaged 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds on a 53.1% shooting clip along with 4.0 assists and 1.5 blocks.

John Paul Frazier, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Averaged 19 points a game on 50% shooting, 42.1% from downtown, along with 7.5 rebounds per game. Scored 18 points against Rivier in a win at home and collected a 30 point, 11 rebound double-double in road victory over Lasell.

Kevin Cummings, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Paced USJ during a 1-1 week, averaging 22.0 points per game off 51.6% field goal shooting, and a 66.7% clip from beyond the arc. Started the week with a career-high 30 points in a home win against Dean and rounded out the week with 14 points at Albertus Magnus.
