GNAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #2

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jaylyn Clardy, Mitchell (Sr., G)

Senior Guard Jaylyn Clardy went on a tear for the Mariners this past weekend, earning Most Valuable Player honors at the Jim Beaudry Classic tournament, hosted by the University of New England. The Pensacola, Florida native started his week strong on Saturday (Nov. 16) in a win against Salve Regina as he shot 52.4% from the floor, going 5-for-9 from downtown, and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe for 32 points while also securing a double-double in the process, snagging 12 rebounds. The next day (Nov. 17), Clardy followed up with 30 points on 71/43/60 splits while finishing one rebound shy of another double-double (nine) and collecting two steals to give the Mariners another tournament victory. On the week, the senior put up 31 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on 61/50/73 shooting splits.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Esmer Madesko, Lasell (Fr., G)

First-Year Guard Emser Madesko came off the bench and gave the Lasers solid production on both ends of the floor in a 2-0 week. Madesko started his week on Wednesday (Nov. 13) with 12 points against Wheaton (Mass.) on 62.5% from the floor (5-for-8) and collected two steals in the process. The Atlanta, Georgia native followed up on Saturday (Nov. 16) with another 12 points this time but connecting on all but one attempt from the floor (5-for-6) against Gordon. Defensively, he collected four steals for the Lasers as well in that game. In 19.5 minutes per game this past week, Madesko averaged 12 points on 71.4% shooting and three steals a game.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Christian Yeates, Dean - Put up averages of 18 points and five boards/steals in two victories for the Bulldogs. Put up 27 points and seven steals against New England College and followed up with nine points, nine rebounds and three steals against Fitchburg State.

Marcus Lewis, Lasell - Averaged 18 ppg on 56% from the floor and 46.2% from three while collecting eight boards and 3.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week. Had a double-double against Wheaton (14 points, 10 boards). Followed up with 22 points, six rebounds, and five steals against Gordon.

Eddie Volkerts, Mitchell - Helped the Mariners win the Jim Beaudry Classic, averaging a double-double with 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds across two games. Collected a double-double in their victory over Salve Regina with 21 points and 15 rebounds with two blocks as well. Followed up with 16 points, eight boards, and five assists in the tournament title game.

Alex Williams, New England College - Averaged 19.5 points and 12.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game over two games while shooting an incredible 68.4 percent from the floor for the Pilgrims. Notched a double-double against Dean (15 points, 10 rebounds) and followed up with another against Framingham State (24 points, 14 rebounds). 

Owen Liss, Norwich – Collected 21 points, including 13-for-15 from the charity stripe, six boards, and three blocks in a win over Plattsburgh.

Russell Rau, Regis - Opened his senior campaign in a 2-1 week for the Pride, averaging 23.3 points (49/44/89 shooting splits) and nine rebounds a game. Rau started the season with a double-double in a win over Skidmore, collecting 17 points and 12 rebounds while also snagging three steals. Put up 29 points and eight rebounds in a win over Fisher and followed up with 24 points and seven boards in a setback against Bowdoin. Moved into fourth place on the Regis career scoring list (1,163 points) and became the first player in program history to reach 700 career rebounds.

Kyler Bosse, Rivier - Averaged 17 points a game on 51.3% from the floor and snagged eight rebounds a game in a 2-1 week. Collected 10 points and nine rebounds in a win over Hartford and 18 points, nine boards in another victory over Fitchburg State. Put up 23 points and six boards in a setback to Roger Williams.

John Paul Frazier, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Averaged 16.5 points on 56/58/75 splits in a 1-1 week for the Monks. Scored 19 points in a 1-1 setback against WPI and followed up with 14 points in a win over Western Connecticut State.
