GNAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #10

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lence Altenor, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., G)

Junior Guard Lence Altenor displayed outrageous efficiency for the Blue Jays this past week, averaging 24 points per game on 72.7% from the floor, including 75% from three and 87.5% from the line. The Everett, Mass. native put up 24 points on 8-for-12 from the floor, going 3-for-5 from three, and 5-for-6 from the charity stripe while collecting five rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes in a GNAC victory over Emmanuel. He followed up with another 24 points, only missing two shots the whole game (8-for-10), hitting six of them from downtown, while snagging eight boards and dropping four dimes in another conference victory over Regis, keeping USJ undefeated in conference play. Altenor is third in the conference in threes made (49) and second in 3pt percentage (47.6%), which currently places him at no. 8 in DIII.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Esmer Madesko, Lasell (Fr., G)

First-Year Guard Esmer Madesko led the charge for the Lasers in a 2-0 week, averaging 25 points a game on 66.7% shooting from the floor, collecting six boards a game, four assists, and 2.5 steals. The Atlanta, Georgia native started the week with 24 points on 7-for-10 from the floor, 10 of them coming from the charity stripe, along with nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in a home victory over Dean. Madesko followed up with 26 points on 9-for-14 from the floor, collecting six assists and three steals in a road win over Anna Maria to keep the Lasers undefeated in conference play. He leads the GNAC in field goal percentage (58.7%) and is second in both steals (43) and assists (84), which currently places him in the top-25 nationally in both categories.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Deivone Tanksley, Albertus Magnus - Averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds a game on 52.2% from the floor, including 80% from three, in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. Had 21 points, six rebounds, and three steals in a GNAC victory over Johnson & Wales and followed up with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a road victory over Rivier.

Ja'maine Davenport, Dean - Averaged a 17.5 point and 10.5 rebound double-double in a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs. Collected a 21 point, 13 rebound in 22 minutes off the bench with two steals/blocks apiece in a road setback to Lasell and put up 14 points and eight rebounds with three assists and two steals in a home victory over Norwich.

Mahari Guerrier, Emmanuel - Finished the week averaging 25.5 points a game on 63.3% from the field along with 8.5 rebounds per game and two steals. Put up 27 points, nine rebounds, and three steals vs USJ and had 24 points with eight rebounds against Mitchell.

Marcus Lewis, Lasell - Scored 18.5 points a game and had 7.5 rebounds in an undefeated week in conference play. Had 13 points and seven rebounds at home vs Dean and followed up with 24 points and eight reboundson the road at Anna Maria.

Eddie Volkerts, Mitchell - Averaged 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, helping guide the Mariners to a 1-1 record in conference play as he shot 54.5% from the floor, and added two steals per contest. Posted his fifth double-double of the season on the road against Elms, scoring 12 points and pulling down 14 rebounds while collecting four steals and scored a season-high 27 points on 60% shooting in a home win on Saturday over Emmanuel, while adding nine rebounds and two assists.

Remijo Wani, Saint Joseph's (Maine)- Had 18 points and nine rebounds along with four assists and two blocks/steals apiece in a home victory over Elms.
