GNAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 11

( FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 1-7 )

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Erik English, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, OH - Simi Valley, Calif.)

English closed the regular-season by averaging 4.18 kills per set and hitting .295 in a 2-1 week, totaling 46 kills for the Saints over the three matches. He was in double-figure kill totals in every match, posting team-high against Rivier (13), JWU (19) and Lasell (14). The senior also posted 28 digs (2.55 digs per set) and became the Emmanuel all-time digs leader versus Rivier. English added six aces on the week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Josh Pitzer, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., MB - North Kingstown, RI)

Pitzer averaged 1.14 blocks in a 3-1 week .. Had 7 blocks in the win against Lasell to help JWU wrap up the #3 seed in the tournament... Produced four more versus Emmanuel .. Also had 2.36 kills per set while hitting .571. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jack Pincince, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., OH - South Kingstown, R.I.) 

The freshman averaged 4.07 kills and 1.36 digs while hitting .390 in a 3-1 week... Had a season-high 19 kills against Emmanuel along with three aces and six digs .. Also produced 16 kills versus Lasell and 13 versus Emerson. Had 57 kills, 5 aces, 19 digs and six blocks for the week.


WEEK 11 HONOR ROLL

Max Gottuso, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, LB - Long Beach, N.Y.) - Gottuso enjoyed a stellar week in the back row for Emmanuel, averaging 3.09 digs per set to help the Saints clinch a first-round home playoff berth as the No. 4 seed. The junior posted double-digit dig total in all three matches, collecting 10 digs vs. Rivier, 13 digs vs. JWU and 11 digs vs. Lasell.

Jordan Aprea, Lasell (Sr., OH/DS - Newington, Conn.) - Averaged 3.33 digs per set in a 1-3 week for Lasell (1-2 GNAC). He made nine digs in a GNAC win over Regis, 18 digs in a loss to Emmanuel, and nine digs in a loss to Johnson & Wales. He also made 14 digs in a loss to #2-ranked Springfield.

Drew Beimel, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., RS - Redondo Beach, Calif.) - In what would turn out to be the final matches of his collegiate career last week, Drew Beimel helped Regis earn a key victory last Tuesday against Emerson. Beimel finished with a season-high 15 kills, just one kill off his career high, along with an assist, two service aces, four digs, and four total blocks. Thursday at Lasell, he led the Pride with 11 kills and hit .273 for the second straight match. Saturday at Wentworth, he finished with seven kills on 15 attack attempts with just one error for a .400 hitting percentage. He ends his collegiate career third on Regis' all-time list for matches played with 92, third on the career kills list with 634, third on the all-time service aces list with 58, and second on both the career digs list (431) and career blocks list (147). 

Ryan Engel, Wentworth (Jr., OH - Floral Park, N.Y.) - Engel averaged 2.33 kills per set and 1.67 digs per set while hitting .290 for a 1-1 week for Wentworth. In a 3-0 sweep against Regis, he notched 11 kills while hitting a blistering .625 alongside six digs for 10 digs and 14 kills overall.
