GNAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 9

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 18-24 )

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

David Smith, Rivier (Jr, OH - Clinton, Ohio) 

Smith was dominant in GNAC play as the Raiders went 2-0, averaging 4.60 kills, 2.00 digs, 0.60 aces and 0.40 blocks per set while hitting at an impressive .556 clip. The junior outside hitter had a team-high 15 kills (.500) in a 3-0 sweep of Lasell then followed that with an eight-kill (.667) performance in just two sets played in a win against Emerson. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cam Roth, Rivier (Jr, OH - Coventry, R.I.) 

Roth was the foundation on defense for Rivier propelling the Raiders to 2 more GNAC wins on the season. The junior libero averaged 4.00 digs/set to help Rivier to a 3-0 sweep over Lasell and a 3-1 win against Emerson. Roth highlighted his week with 11 digs in just 2 sets played in the win against Emerson. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Connor Adams, Wentworth (Fr., - Budd Lake, N.J.)

Adams averaged 10.00 assists per set over five sets played for the Leopards. He dished out 11 assists with a service ace to sweep the Regis last Tuesday before setting a new career-high with a match-best 39 assists in a 3-0 sweep over Medgar Evers. 


WEEK 9 HONOR ROLL
Erik English, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, OH - Simi Valley, Calif.) - English averaged 3.67 kills, 2.33 digs and 1.44 service aces per set while hitting .369 in a 3-0 week. The senior collected 12 kills in a 3-0 win over Colby-Sawyer on the road then followed it up with a 10/12 kill afternoon in a tri-match sweep over Regis and Colby-Sawyer. He posted 21 digs (2.33 digs per set), 13 aces, four total blocks and two assists.

Sanjae Holloway, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., OH - East Hartford, Conn.) - Averaged 2.46 kills, 1.92 digs and 0.69 aces in three matches ... Had 11 kills against Lasell and Medgar Evers...Posted a 10-kill, 11-dig double-double versus Wentworth

Ryan Engel, Wentworth (Jr., OH - Floral Park, N.Y.) - Engel averaged 3.20 kills, 2.40 digs and 0.80 service aces per set while hitting .361 in a 3-0 week. He started the week off with eight kills in a sweep over Regis, hitting .889 with zero errors on nine swings, before posting back-to-back double-doubles in an afternoon tri at Johnson & Wales. Engel notched 14 kills (.212.) and 11 digs leading WIT to a five-set victory over the Wildcats, before adding 10 kills and 12 digs against the Cougars for the tri-match sweep. 

Peter Klembczyk, Wentworth (So., L - Penfield, N.Y.) - Klembczyk backstopped Wentworth to three straight wins, averaging 2.64 digs per set, including 13 in a crucial 3-2 GNAC victory over JWU to avenge WIT's March 16 loss to the Wildcats. He added seven in a sweep over Regis before closing out the week with nine digs against Medgar Evers.
