GNAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 7

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 4-10 )

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Pedro Campos, Rivier (Jr, S - Downey, Calif.) 

Campos led Rivier, which vaulted to the No. 15 spot in the AVCA Division III national rankings last week, to a 3-1 record and a second-place finish on the west coast at the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational. The 6-1 setter dished out 161 assists across 15 sets (10.73 per set) and also chiped in 2.07 digs per set on the defensive end. The junior highlighted his week with a 53-assist performance in a 3-1 win over Adrian and had 33+ assists in each contest. 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Donovan Kelley, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., MB - Encinitas, Calif.)

Kelley averaged 1.43 blocks per set in a 2-2 week out west in California. He had a season-high eight blocks in a 3-1 win over St. John Fisher, which is receiving votes in the Division III AVCA national poll. He had four more stuffs versus Cal Lutheran and seven against Adrian. Offensively, he averaged 2.14 kills per set while hitting an impressive .412. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jack Pincince, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., OH - South Kingstown, R.I.) 

The rookie averaged 2.79 kills, 1.50 digs and 0.50 blocks in four games on the west coast. He had a double-double versus St. John Fisher with 17 kills and 12 digs and closed the week with a 14-kill performance against Adrian, a 3-1 victory. 


WEEK 7 HONOR ROLL
Orlando Plagata, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, OH - Los Angeles, Calif.) - Plagata averaged 2.50 kills and 2.33 digs per set in a 1-1 week for the Chargers. He began the week with match-highs of 10 kills and 10 digs in a 3-0 win over No. Vermont- Johnson before contributing a team-best five kills to go with four digs in a loss to a tough Lasell squad. 

Erik English, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, OH - Simi Valley, Calif.) - The reigning GNAC Defensive Player of the week averaged 3.13 kills, 0.50 aces and 2.56 digs per set in a four-game week for the Saints. 

Justyn Schueler, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, MH - Trumbull, Conn.) - Schueler averaged 2.81 kills and 0.63 blocks per set while hitting .286 in a 1-3 week. He had 15 kills in a 3-2 loss at Adrian and 17 more in a five-set win vs. St. John Fisher. 

Jack Pincince, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., OH - South Kingstown, R.I.) - The rookie averaged 2.79 killsm 1.50 digs and 0.50 blocks per set in a 2-2 week while hitting .153. He had a double-double versus St. John Fisher with 17 kills and 12 digs before registering 14 more against Adrian and four versus UC Santa Cruz and Cal Lutheran.

Aaron Waitekus, Lasell (So., MB - Norwood, Mass.) - The sophomore averaged 3.75 kills per set with no attack errors and a .652 attack percentage in a pair of 3-0 victories. He made six kills in seven attempts in one set against Pine Manor before notching nine kills (9-0--16), three digs and two blocks in a GNAC victory over Colby-Sawyer.

Cam Roth, Rivier (Jr, OH - Coventry, R.I.) - Roth's defense propelled Rivier to a 3-1 week helping the Raiders to improve their overall record to 12-7 on the year. The junior libero was solid scooping up a team high 58 digs in 15 sets played for a 3.87 per-set average. Roth highlighted his week with a 17-dig performance in a 3-0 sweep over UC Santa Cruz.
