GNAC Men's Volleyball Report: Week 3

( FOR THE WEEK OF FEB. 4-10 )

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Pedro Campos, Rivier (Jr, S - Downey, Calif.)

Campos was sensational in a 3-0 week for the Raiders, as the junior setter directed the Raider offense to a .343 hitting percentage while averaging 12.00 assists per set. He also chipped in with 2.50 digs and 0.70 blocks per set on the week. The offense hit a blistering .453 and Campos had 40 assists with seven digs in a 3-0 win over Emmanuel for Riv's first GNAC victory. He followed that up with a monster 44-assist, 11-dig, four-block performance in a 3-1 road win over Wells before ending the week with 36 assists, seven digs and two blocks in a sweep of SUNY Poly.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cam Roth, Rivier (Jr, OH - Coventry, R.I.)

In a 3-0 week for the Raiders, the junior outside hitter averaged 2.00 digs, 0.60 blocks and 0.50 service aces per set. Offensively, he also averaged 3.20 kills per set on a .328 hitting percentage. He had eight kills (.467), three aces and eight digs in a 3-0 GNAC win over Emmanuel before notching 14 kills, six digs and three blocks in a 3-1 win over Wells. He finished strong with 10 kills, six digs and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep at SUNY Poly.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Orlando Plagata, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, OH - Los Angeles, Calif.)

The first-year led the Chargers to a 3-1 week with 4.15 kills and 3.85 digs per set on a .258 hitting percentage, recording three double-doubles. Plagata began the week with match-highs of 13 kills (.450) and 10 digs in the program's first-ever road win at NVU-Johnson. He followed with an impressive 17 kills, 17 digs and five aces in a 3-1 triumph at So. Vermont. Plagata kept it rolling in the team's 3-0 win at Dean, giving Colby-Sawyer a three-match road winning streak, with match-highs of 15 kills and 15 digs. He ended the week with nine kills and seven digs in a 3-0 loss to Regis. 


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL

Mark Piorkowski, Emerson (Senior, OH/RS - Montclair, N.J.) - In a 3-0 week, Piorkowski hit .300 and averaged an impressive 4.33 kills, 1.22 service aces, 2.89 digs and 5.7 points per set. He had 15 kills, four aces and eight digs in a 3-0 win at Newbury before registering 11 kills, three aces and eight more digs in a sweep agaisnt Eastern Nazarene. He capped the week with a double-double in a 3-0 win over York with 13 kills, 10 digs and four more aces. 

Seamus McDonagh, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, S - Long Beach, N.Y.) - McDonagh dished out 85 assists in a 2-1 week for an average of 9.44 per set for the Saints. The junior ran a smooth offense in wins over Eastern Nazarene and York, passing out 37 helpers against Eastern Naz before distributing 26 versus York. He also had 22 helpers and four digs in a 3-0 loss at Rivier.

Sanjae Holloway, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., OH - East Hartford, Conn.) - In a 1-1 week, Holloway averaged 3.67 kills and 2.00 digs while hitting .326. He started the week with eight kills on nine attempts for and a .889 hitting percentage in a sweep of Regis. He also notched his first collegiate double-double with 14 kills and a career-high 10 digs in a four-set setback at Vassar, which is receiving votes in the AVCA D3 national poll. 

Josh Pitzer, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., MB - North Kingstown, R.I.) - Pitzer averaged 1.00 blocks per set in a 1-1 week, notching six blocks and a match-high nine kills (.692) in a GNAC sweep over Regis before registering one block and six kills (.278) in a 3-1 loss to Vassar. Offensively, he averaged 2.14 kills per set and hit an impressive .452 on the week.

Drew Beimel, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., RS - Redondo Beach, Calif.) - Beimel hit .281 en route to 2.33 kills per set in a 1-1 week, which included seven-kill efforts against JWU and Dean.
