GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 9

( FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 21 - 27 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK 

Olivia Trull, Simmons (Senior, F - Lowell, Mass.)
 
In two matches, the senior tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner, for four points. The forward scored the eventual game-winning marker in a 2-0 victory over visiting Colby-Sawyer College on October 23. Trull also scored the lone Simmons goal in a 3-1 loss to visiting Wellesley College on October 26.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Lucy McNamara, Simmons (Junior, GK - Brewster, Mass.)

In two matches, the junior posted a 1.50 goals against average to go with a .870 save percentage as part of a 20-save week. McNamara began the week by posting a five-save shutout in a 2-0 victory over visiting Colby-Sawyer College on October 23. She capped the week by making 15 stops in a 3-1 loss to visiting Wellesley College on October 26.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sheridan Blaha, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., F - Waltham, Mass.)
 
Blaha had two goals for four points in a 2-0 week, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Rivier. On Thursday night, she scored the game-winning goal with 8:17 remaining in the fourth period as Regis earned an important 1-0 victory over the Raiders. It was her 14th goal of the season, breaking the Pride single-season goals record. Saturday, she scored 26 seconds into the second period on her only shot of the match to help the Pride defeat Albertus Magnus, 4-0. She is second in the GNAC with 15 goals and tied for second in the league with 31 points, also a Regis single-season record. Blaha has scored a goal in four straight matches. 

WEEK 9 HONOR ROLL

Ashley Chipman, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., F - Stoughton, Mass.) - Chipman has provided leadership for the Pride, especially during the team's current three-match winning streak. After helping the team defeat Rivier Thursday night, 1-0, she scored the first goal of the match Saturday just over eight-and-a-half minutes into the contest. Chipman then assisted on the Pride's second goal of the game 26 seconds into the second period as Regis eventually pulled away with a 4-0 victory. Chipman has been the inserting player on Regis' penalty corner opportunities throughout the season, plus she has been called upon to play multiple positions throughout the year. 
 
Hunter Langley, Rivier (Fr, F - Londonderry, N.H.) - Langley led the offensive effort on the week for Rivier. She scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 4-1 win over Lasell University while also assisting on another for five total points. 
 
Sophia Jacques, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Freshman, M - Peru, Maine) - Jacques tallied a goal and two assists for four total points in a 2-0 week for the Monks.
