GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 2

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 2 - SEPT. 8)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Emily Plummer, Simmons (So. - San Diego, CA)

In two matches, the sophomore tallied three goals for six points on five shots. The forward recorded her second career hat trick and fourth lifetime multi-goal effort with three goals in a 6-0 home win over University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on September 7.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Lucy McNamara, Simmons (Jr. - Brewster, Mass)

In two matches, the junior posted a 1.71 goals against average to go with an .800 save percentage after stopping 12 of 15 shots in 105 minutes of play. The goalie helped to combine on a shutout with eight saves in 45 minutes vs. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on September 7 to cap the week. McNamara made four saves at Westfield State University on September 4 to begin the week.  

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sheridan Blaha, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., F - Waltham, Mass.)

Blaha led the Regis offense in the season opener at Becker last Tuesday. She took the most shots of any player in the match with six total shots, including three shots on goal. In the final minute of regulation, she drew a penalty stroke opportunity and converted on the attempt for her first career collegiate goal. Blaha also played the entire match against Western Connecticut State Saturday afternoon. 


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL

Jillian Miele, Johnson & Wales (Sophomore, F - Wilmington, Mass.) - Against non-conference opponents, sophomore Jillian Miele scored three of Johnson & Wales four goals last week. The Wilmington, Mass. native helped the Wildcats take a commanding 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the first 27 minutes, against Becker College on Saturday afternoon, but the Hawks responded scoring three unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters.

Katie Olsen, Rvier (Sophomore, GK - Saugus, Mass.) - Olsen shined bright in the Raiders' only game of the week - a 1-0 setback to visiting Westfield State. Olsen recorded seven saves on eight shots over her 60 minutes of action.
