GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 5

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 23 - 29)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Olivia Trull, Simmons (Sr., F - Lowell, Mass.)

The senior tallied seven points on three goals and an assist in two matches for the Sharks. The forward tallied a goal and assisted on another to help Simmons post a 3-0 victory at Becker College on September 24. Trull capped the week by scoring both goals in regulation to help the the Sharks to a 3-2 win at Regis College (Mass.).

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Lucy McNamara, Simmons (Jr., GK - Brewster, Mass.) 

The junior posted a gaudy 0.86 goals against average after allowing just two goals in 140 minutes of action, while making 19 saves to boast a sparkling .905 save percentage. McNamara turned away all eight shots she faced in a 3-0 shutout at Becker on September 24. The goalie capped the week by giving up two goals against 11 saves and did not allow a score in either overtime and denied all four tries in the shootout to set up a 3-2 victory following the shootout at Regis this past Saturday.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Hunter Langley, Rivier (Fr, F - Londonderry, N.H.)

Langley enjoyed a stellar week for the Raiders as she helped the team go 2-1. Langley notched three goals and an assist for seven points as Rivier defeated both Dean and Albertus Magnus to improve to 5-4 on the season. In the 7-0 win over Dean, she scored two goals on three shots and then added a goal & an assist in the GNAC 6-0 triumph over Albertus.


WEEK 5 HONOR ROLL

Madison Flaxington, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., GK - Lincoln, R.I.) - Making her second start of the season, Flaxington guided Johnson & Wales to its first conference win following a 4-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon. Playing all 60 minutes against the Chargers, Flaxington nearly picked up her first career shutout (and second Wildcat shutout) registering 10 saves on 11 chances.

Jillian Miele, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., F - Wilmington, Mass.) - Miele guided Johnson & Wales to a 1-1 week which included the Wildcats first conference win over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday afternoon. Over the course of the two-game week, the Wilmington, Mass. native registered a pair of goals and assists for six points on the week. Against the Chargers, Miele found the back of the net with six minutes to go in the fourth quarter of the Wildcats 4-1 win over the Chargers. 

Sofia Rodriguez, Lasell (So., G - Peabody, Mass.) - Rodriguez posted a 3.03 goals against average and a .800 save percentage with 16 saves in a 1-1 week. She made 14 saves on 17 shots in 45 minutes of a mid-week loss at WPI, and made two saves in a 2-1 double-overtime GNAC victory Saturday over Anna Maria.

Sam Taylor, Lasell (Sr., F - Hanover, Mass.) - Taylor scored two goals with one game-winner in a pair of games (1-1, 1-0 GNAC). Both of her goals came Saturday in a 2-1 overtime victory over GNAC foe Anna Maria, as she tied the game at 1-1 with 7:38 to go in the fourth quarter and won it with her second goal 3:51 into the second overtime.

Katie Olsen, Rivier (So, GK - Saugus, Mass.) - Olsen backstopped the Raiders to a 2-1 week including a GNAC win over Albertus Magnus. She registered two shutout victories against future GNAC member Dean College and Albertus. Olsen surrendered two goals on the week in the 2-1 loss to Elms despite making eight saves.
