GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 1

(FOR THE OPENING WEEKEND OF AUG. 30-SEPT. 1)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Alexandra Belaire, Saint Joseph's (ME) (Jr. - Greene, Maine)

Belaire scored both of the Monks' goals in a 2-1 victory over Wellesley College.  

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Alexandria Simpson, Saint Joseph's (ME) (Jr. - Pascog, R.I.)

Simpson opened her first year as a starter by turning away 11 of 12 shots in a 2-1 victory against Skidmore College. This performance was followed by four stops in a 2-1 win at Wellesley College. Simpson posted a .882 save percentage with a 1.00 goals against average over 120 minutes.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Mya Maxim, Lasell University (Fr. - South China, ME.)

Maxim scored two goals, including the game-tying and game winning goals in Lasell's 3-2 season opening victory over Becker College. She tied the game at 2-2 with 2:51 remaining in regulation and fired home the game-winner at 2:48 into overtime.


WEEK 1 HONOR ROLL
Lucy McNamara, Simmons (Junior, GK - Brewster, Mass.) - The junior stopped 10 of 12 shots in her only match of the week, which ended in double-overtime for 70:34 of action. The goalie posted a 1.70 goals against average (based on 60-minute match) and owned a .833 save percentage. McNamara turned away 10 shots in a 2-1 double-overtime defeat at Clark University on August 30.
