GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 10

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brylee Frank, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., S - Palm City, Fla.) 

Frank guided No. 23 Johnson & Wales to a 4-0 week, which included a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over non-conference Ithaca on Friday evening. Against the Bombers, she nearly notched her first triple-double of the season pacing the offense with 49 assists, while tallying 16 digs and nine kills. Frank closed out the week helping the Wildcats finish the regular season with a perfect 12-0 GNAC marking following a pair of 3-0 victories over Colby-Sawyer and Norwich on Saturday. Against the Chargers and Cadets, Franked combined for 55 assists, 16 digs, eight kills and five aces. 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Elyssa Nicolas, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., DS - San Francisco, Calif.)

Nicolas helped No. 23 JWU to a 4-0 week, which included a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over non-conference Ithaca on Friday evening. Against the Bombers, the northern California native tallied 27 defensive digs, while registering a pair of aces. Nicolas helped the Wildcats close out the regular with a perfect 12-0 GNAC mark for the third consecutive year following two 3-0 victories over Colby-Sawyer and Norwich. Against the Chargers and Cadets, she combined for 26 digs. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sydney Iannantuono, Simmons (First Year, OH - East Lyme, Conn.)

The first year averaged 2.7 points per set with 1.83 kills, 0.50 aces and 0.50 blocks per set to go with 4.83 digs per frame in six sets over two matches. The outside hitter came up with 16 digs in three sets, while adding five kills, three aces and two total blocks at Suffolk University on November 2. Iannantuono capped the GNAC tri-match and the week with six kills, 13 digs and a block assist in three sets vs. Saint Joseph's College (Maine).

Naarah Cox, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, MB - Boston, Mass.) - Cox led the Chargers offensive attack with 3.38 kills per set on .236 hitting. She had at least 10 kills in each of the three Colby-Sawyer's matches and totaled 44. Cox also added .46 blocks per set with three solo blocks and three block assists. Cox began the week with 10 kills in a tough 3-2 loss to Southern Maine. She then posted a match high 16 kills on .400 against nationally ranked Johnson & Wales. Cox finished the week with a season best 18 kills in a 3-2 win over Norwich that locked up the 5th seed in the GNAC Tournament. 

Morgan Flynn, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, LB - Reading, Mass.) - Flynn averaged 4.69 digs per set in a 1-2 week for the Chargers. She added nine aces during the week. Flynn tallied 20 digs and 7 aces in a tough 3-2 loss to Southern Maine and followed with 12 digs against nationally ranked Johnson & Wales. Flynn ended the week with a match and season high of 29 digs in a 3-2 comeback win over Norwich that helped lock up the 5th seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. 

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey closed out her collegiate volleyball career by leading the Pride to two victories Saturday. She notched her 15th and 16th double-doubles of the season, collecting 11 kills in both matches while earning 11 digs against Anna Maria and 13 digs against Salve Regina. In the Anna Maria match, she also picked up three service aces. She did help the team defensively against Rivier with seven digs and four total blocks. Veasey closed out her career with 1,174 kills and 1,039 digs, the first Regis player to reach the 1,000 milestone in both kills and digs.

Morgan Lauvray, Simmons (Junior, LB - Murrieta, Calif.) - In six sets over two matches, the junior averaged 4.0 digs per set and added an ace and seven assists, while owning a .960 serve reception rate after committing just one miscue in 25 serves received. The libero got down for 15 digs and fired an ace to go with three assists in three sets at Suffolk University on November 1. Lauvray capped the week by scooping up nine digs in three sets to go with four assists and handled all 17 serves without an error vs. Saint Joseph's College (Maine).

Morgan Weeg, Simmons (Junior, OH - Goodyear, Ariz.) - In two matches, the junior averaged 4.0 kills per set, while hitting .246 to go with three total digs in six sets. The outside hitter put down double-digit kills in both matches. Weeg swung for 10 kills and hit .200 at Suffolk University in the first of two matches of a GNAC tri-match on November 2. The Arizona native capped the week with 14 kills and a .290 hitting mark to go with three digs vs. Saint Joseph's College (Maine).

Kayla Barbera, Suffolk (Jr., OH - Wakefield, R.I.) - Averaged 3.18 kills and 2.00 digs in a 1-2 week, as the Rams cemented the No. 4 seed in the GNAC Tournament and their most winningest season in program history.

Harmony Johnson, Suffolk (Fr., S - Riverside, Calif.) - Johnson averaged 8.20 assists and 3.10 digs per set in a three-match week.

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 13 member institutions and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors and administers 22 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
