GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 2

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 2 - 8)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brylee Frank, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., S - Palm City, Fla.) 

Frank paced No. 6 Johnson & Wales to a 2-0 week, averaging 9.27 assists, 2.14 digs and 1.00 blocks per set. Frank was the difference maker in Saturday's 3-1 win over Brandeis. In addition to notching her third double-double of the season (12 digs, 40 assists) with four aces, Frank spearheaded a fourth-set rally when the Wildcats were trailing by seven early to come back and seal the match with a 25-21 set score. The previous night against Coast Guard at the Connecticut College/Coast Guard Invitational, she paced the Wildcats to a convincing 3-0 shutout with 25 assists, while dominating the net tallying five block assists. 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Elyssa Nicolas, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., DS - San Francisco, Calif.)

Nicolas was integral in helping No. 6 Johnson & Wales to a 2-0 week, which included a 3-1 win over a gritty Brandeis squad. After the Judges picked up a third-set win Saturday morning to cut the match to 2-1, Nicolas was instrumental in a monumental fourth set come back after trailing by seven early. She finished the 3-1 win over Brandeis with 23 digs and a pair of aces. For the week, she averaged 4.43 digs and 0.57 service aces per set.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Harmony Johnson, Suffolk (Fr., S - Riverside, Calif.) 

The Rams rookie averaged 9.00 assists and 2.00 digs per set in a 2-0 week, registering 39 assists in a five-set victory at Colby before dishing out 33 helpers in a 3-0 sweep over Salem State.


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL

Ashley David, Albertus Magnus (Sr., RS/OH - West Islip, N.Y.) - David maintained a stellar .226 attack percentage with 21 kills to lead the Falcons to a 3-0 record. The senior paced the team with 2.33 kills per set. With eight kills against Nichols, David crossed the 500-kill threshold with 502 in her illustrious career. 

Jesselle Guzman, Albertus Magnus (Sr., LB - El Paso, Texas) - Guzman anchored the Falcons' defense in three victories last week, tallying 58 digs (5.80 d/s). Her strongest performance of the week came against Nichols on Saturday, with 27 digs and three aces. Guzman also recorded 22 digs and five assists in a straight-set victory over Lehman. 

Sarah Farnum, Norwich (Fr., RS - North Andover, Mass.) - Farnum registered 46 assists over two matches for a 7.67 per set average to help pace the Cadets' offense in a split versus MCLA and Dean on Saturday. She also recorded eight digs and one service ace. 

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey surpassed milestone marks of 900 career kills and 100 career blocks last week, averaging 3.00 kills, 2.93 digs and 0.60 blocks per set over four games. In Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Dean, she earned six kills on 14 attempts without an attack error for a .429 hitting percentage, plus she finished with 11 defensive digs. Friday, she posted a career-high 21 kills, believed to be one of the highest single-match kill totals in program history. She hit .280 in the match, plus she earned 11 digs and three total blocks. She notched another double-double Saturday against Eastern Nazarene with 12 kills and 10 digs, and then she collected six kills, 12 digs, and four total blocks against UNE. 

Morgan Lauvray, Simmons (Junior, LB - Murrieta, Calif.) - In the Sharks only match of the week, the junior got down for 29 digs in five sets to average 5.80 digs per set, while firing a pair of aces vs. Wentworth on September 5. The libero also posted an .885 serve reception percentage.

Morgan Weeg, Simmons (Junior, OH - Goodyear, Ariz.) - In the only match of the week for the Sharks, the outside hitter spiked for 17 kills in five sets to average 3.40 kills per set, while owning a .271 hitting mark. The junior also added three digs and a block assist vs. Wentworth Institute of Technology on September 5.

Hannah Fabiano, Suffolk (Jr., OH - Litchfield, N.H.) - Fabiano averaged 3.75 kills and 2.75 digs per set for the Rams in a 2-0 week.
