GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 5

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 23 - 29 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kiana Perez Diaz, Lasell (So., OH - Juncos, Puerto Rico)

Perez Diaz averaged 5.17 kills and 3.50 digs per set while hitting .236 in a pair of Lasell losses. She smashed 19 kills with a .308 attack percentage and made 12 digs in a Saturday loss to Framingham State before recording 12 kills and nine digs Saturday in a loss to Northern Vermont-Johnson.

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Morgan Lauvray, Simmons (Junior, LB - Murrieta, Calif.)

In the Sharks only match of the week on Saturday – a 3-1 win at Colby-Sawyer – the junior was a threat on both sides of the net, picking up 20 digs to average 5.00 per set, while firing five aces for 1.25 per frame on Saturday. The libero also handled six of seven serves successfully for an .833 reception percentage.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Harmony Johnson, Suffolk (Fr., S - Riverside, Calif., 20)

Johnson was a crucial ingredient to Suffolk's 2-1 week, which featured a straight-set victory over GNAC foe Norwich that helped the Rams begin league play at 3-0 for the first time since 2005. She averaged 6.64 assists, 2.91 digs and 0.64 blocks per set, posting 27 assists in wins over the Cadets and WNEU after registering 19 against Wentworth.


WEEK 5 HONOR ROLL

Mica van der Meulen, Regis (Mass.) (So., DS/L - Colorado Springs, Colo.) - van der Meulen continued to lead the Pride backline defense, averaging 4.67 digs per set in a 2-1 week for the Pride. After collecting 16 digs at Eastern Connecticut State Tuesday, she earned 12 digs, four assists, and a service ace in Regis' first GNAC win of the season against USJ. She then came back with 14 digs, five assists, and a service ace in the Pride's sweep of Albertus Magnus. For the season, van der Meulen leads the team and is eighth in the GNAC with 3.88 digs per set, earning 202 digs so far in 2019. 

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey surpassed the 1,000-kill milestone for her career in leading the Pride to a 2-1 week, in which she hit .211 and averaged 3.11 kills, 0.67 aces and an impressive 3.56 digs per set. After earning 10 kills, 11 digs, and two service aces at Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday, she hit the 1,000-kill plateau on her second kill against USJ Saturday, en route to finishing the match against the Blue Jays with six kills, seven digs, and four service aces. She then notched her seventh double-double of the season against Albertus Magnus with 12 kills (.276), 14 digs and three block assists.

Morgan Weeg, Simmons (Junior, OH - Goodyear, Ariz.) - In a four-set road win over Colby-Sawyer, the junior swung for 13 kills on a .310 hitting percentage and added four digs and a pair of block assists for 3.25 kills per set.

Hannah Fabiano, Suffolk (Jr., OH - Litchfield, N.H.) - Fabiano was a crucial ingredient to Suffolk's 2-0 home tri-match sweep, which featured a straight-set victory over GNAC foe Norwich that helped the Rams begin GNAC play 3-0 for the first time since 2005. She had double-digit kills in each outing and put together a double-double effort of 10 kills and 10 digs in the five-set thrilling triumph over Western New England, averaging 3.13 kills, 0.50 aces and 1.63 digs per set. 

Dakhensey Marcellus, Suffolk (Jr., L - Brockton, Mass.) - Marcellus was key to Suffolk's 2-1 week as the Rams improved to 3-0 in GNAC play, averagin 4.82 digs and 0.91 service aces per set. She capped off the three-match week with a season-high 24-dig performance and a career-high six-assist effort in a five-set thrilling triumph over Western New England.
