GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 4

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 16 - 22 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Taylor Dunster, Rivier (Sr, OH - Sutton, Mass.)

Dunster averaged 3.60 kills and 5.20 digs per set in a 3-0 week to go with a .310 hitting percentage. In a 3-1 win over Eastern Nazarene, she went off for 16 kills and 26 digs. She posted triple-doubles in all three victories and also chipped in with 0.40 aces and 0.40 blocks per set for the Raiders. 

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Morgan Lauvray, Simmons (Junior, LB - Murrieta, Calif.)

The junior averaged 4.78 digs per set in nine sets over three matches and registered 11 or more digs in every match, while averaging 0.67 aces per set. The libero also owned a .905 serve reception percentage and made two or fewer errors in every match. Lauvray began the week with 14 digs in three sets vs. #21 Babson College on September 19. She anchored the defense with 18 digs in three sets to average 6.0 digs per set vs. Lasell University on September 21 and committed just one serve reception error. The West Coast native capped the week with 11 digs and six aces to help the Sharks defeat Regis College in three sets. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Hanna Holden, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Fr., S - Stoughton, Mass.)

Holden helped lead the Monks to a 3-1 week with 125 assists, 43 digs, 19 kills, and six aces over four matches. In a convincing 3-1 triumph over Husson, the freshman setter boasted a .909 attack rate with an impressive triple-double with 10 kills, 32 assists, and 13 digs. She capped the weekend with a career-high 45 assists in a four-set win over UMaine-Fort Kent. For the week, Holden averaged 7.81 assists per set. 


WEEK 4 HONOR ROLL

Morgan Flynn, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, LB - Reading, Mass.) - Flynn led the Chargers backline in a 1-2 week with 4.73 digs per set. The senior picked up 13 digs in a 3-0 loss against a tough Middlebury squad to begin the week. She then led all players with 24 digs in a 3-2 loss at Saint Joseph's (ME). Flynn again led all players with 15 digs in a 3-0 neutral site win over Husson. She added three aces against Husson. 

Rebecca Straubel, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, OH - Altamont, NY) - Straubel paced the Colby-Sawyer attack in a 1-2 week with 2.91 kills per set. She added 1.91 digs per set and .55 aces per set. Her best match of the week came in a tough 3-2 loss at Saint Joseph's (ME) when she tallied 15 kills, nine digs and three aces. 

Samantha Carrigan, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr, DS - Plaistow, N.H.) - Posted a 19-dig outing in a three-set defeat to Keene State in her only action this week for Emmanuel, averaging 6.33 digs per set.

Kiana Perez Diaz, Lasell (So., OH - Juncos, Puerto Rico) - Perez Diaz averaged 4.08 kills, 1.00 service aces and 3.62 digs per set as Lasell went 1-2 for the week (1-1 GNAC). She smashed at least 21 kills in two of the three matches while hitting at a .245 attack percentage. She had 21 kills (.302 attack pct.), 22 digs and six aces in a 3-2 loss to UNE (which improved to 8-1 overall) before registering nine kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 GNAC loss to Simmons. She finished the week by recording 23 kills, 14 digs and six aces in a 3-2 GNAC win over Regis.

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey averaged 2.80 kills and 2.80 digs per set in a four-match week. After earning nine kills and 10 digs against UMass Dartmouth, she notched her fourth double-double of the season with 17 kills and 13 digs against Plymouth State. In Regis' first conference match of the season against Lasell, she hit .371 as she earned her fifth double-double of 2019 with 15 kills and 15 digs. She picked up four digs and two block assists to help the Pride defensively against Simmons. Veasey is 12 kills away from reaching the 1,000-kill mark for her career. 

Erin Olson, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Junior, MB - Stoughton, Mass.) - Olson posted a .357 attack percentage with 42 kills and 13 total blocks in a 3-1 week for Saint Joseph's. The junior middle blocker tallied 12 kills and six total blocks in a 3-2 triumph over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday and on Sunday notched a .458 attack rate with 12 kills and one error in 24 attempts in a four-set victory over UMaine-Fort Kent.

Amanda Fortune, Simmons (Sophomore, MB - Round Rock, Texas) - In three matches and nine sets, the sophomore averaged 3.33 points per set, including 2.56 kills, 0.78 blocks and 0.33 aces per set, while owning a torrid .500 hitting percentage. The middle blocker put down 12 kills and committed just two errors to post a .476 hitting mark vs. Lasell University on September 21 and added a pair of aces, two total blocks and three digs in three sets. Fortune began the week by swinging for seven kills in 12 attempts without an error to register a .576 hitting percentage in addition to an ace, two blocks and a dig in three frames vs. #21 Babson College on September 19. The second-year player capped the week with four kills on a .429 hitting percentage and got up for three block assists vs. Regis College. 

Dakhensey Marcellus, Suffolk (Jr., L - Brockton, Mass.) - Averaged 4.23 digs per set in a 3-1 week for the Rams.
