GNAC Women's Volleyball Report: Week 7

( FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 7 - 13 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Morgan Weeg, Simmons (Junior, OH - Goodyear, Ariz.)

The junior averaged 3.87 kills per set in 15 setsthroughout a 3-1 week, while hitting .237 and picking up 0.80 digs per set and a total of two blocks. The outside hitter began the week with eight kills on a .278 hitting mark to go with two digs and a block assist in a three-set sweep versus Rivier University on Wednesday. She closed out the week with at least 12 kills in each of her last three matches. Weeg put down 12 kills and picked up seven digs in four sets at Wheaton College on Thursday. The West Coast native capped the week with a season-high 22 kills to go with a block assist in five sets at Norwich University and swung for 16 kills on a blistering .538 hitting mark in addition to three digs vs. Albertus Magnus College. Her first kill against Albertus gave her 1,000 for her career,

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Morgan Lauvray, Simmons (Junior, LB - Murrieta, Calif.)

The junior averaged 4.27 digs per set to go with 0.73 aces per frame and a .980 serve reception success rate in 15 sets over four matches. The libero committed just one miscue in 50 serves received, while picking up 16 or more digs in three of four matches and fired three or more aces in three of four contests. Lauvray began the week with 16 digs and three aces in three sets vs. Rivier University on October 9. She scooped up 21 digs in four sets at Wheaton College the next night and followed that with 20 more digs and four aces in five sets at Norwich University on October 12. The defender picked up seven digs and served up four aces in three sets vs. Albertus Magnus College on the same day.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sarah Farnum, Norwich (Fr., S - North Andover, Mass.)

Farnum was a key reason the Cadets went 2-1 this week and helped push the team into a fifth and deciding set in its only loss. The freshman setter continues to direct the offense like a veteran. She averaged 8.73 assists per set this week and 1.38 digs on the defensive side which included nine in a tough loss to Simmons. Her setting acumen helped generate a .225 team hitting percentage on the week, nearly 35 percentage points higher than its average on the year.


WEEK 7 HONOR ROLL

Sam Mohammed, Colby-Sawyer (So, OH - Killingworth, Conn.) - Mohammed led the Chargers in a 3-1 week with 2.71 kills per set. She added 2.50 digs and .43 aces per set. She began the week with an impressive match high 15 kills to lead Colby-Sawyer to a 3-1 GNAC win over Regis. The sophomore then posted 11 kills on .450 hitting with nine digs in a 3-0 win at Fitchburg State. On Saturday, Mohammed had eight kills, four aces and 12 digs to help the Chargers to an important 3-1 GNAC road win at Lasell. 

Marissa Cataldo, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, OH - Melrose, Mass.) - Cataldo enjoyed a strong week averaging 2.50 kills and 3.38 digs per set for Emmanuel over 16 total sets. The senior posted double-doubles in back-to-back GNAC affairs recording 13 kills and 14 digs in a 3-1 victory over USJ before closing the week with 12 kills and 15 digs vs. Saint Joseph's (ME). She added four aces, three assists and two total blocks for the Saints.

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., OH - Quincy, Mass.) - Veasey 2.60 kills, 2.00 digs and 0.40 blocks per set in a 1-2 week. Wednesday at Colby-Sawyer, she notched her ninth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs, plus she picked up two block assists. After collecting six kills, five digs, and a block assist against WPI, she led Regis with 10 kills in the Pride's victory over Fitchburg State. Veasey is fourth in the GNAC in total kills with 203 and ninth in the league in kills per set at 2.86. 

Sydney Racevicius, Rivier (So, OH - Woodbury, CT) - Rivier improved to 14-5 on the season behind the strong play of Racevicius. The sophomore outside hitter averaged 4.00 kills/set with a .262 hitting percentage on offense while scooping up 3.36 digs/set, .45 blocks/set and .36 aces/set on defense. Racevicius topped off her week with a 22 kills, .354 hitting percentage and 14 dig performance in 5 sets against Salve Regina. 

Hannah Fabiano, Suffolk (Jr., OH - Litchfield, N.H.) - Fabiano averaged 3.17 kills and 3.00 digs in a 1-1 week for the Rams.
