GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 11

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lexie Hamilton, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, G - Swanzey, N.H.)

Hamilton nearly averaged a triple double in a 1-1 week for the Chargers. The senior guard finished with 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game. She began the week with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a tough 58-52 loss to Emmanuel. Hamilton then recorded her second career triple-double of 15 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds in a 76-61 win over Anna Maria. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Pam Gonzalez, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., G - Revere, Mass.)

Gonzalez averaged a double-double (10 PTS, 10 REB) in 24.5 minutes per game while shooting 53.8% (7-13 FG, 3-7 3PT, 3-3 FT), as Regis improved its GNAC record to 5-1 with two victories last week. On Wednesday against Lasell, Gonzalez scored 12 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, plus she dished out five assists. On Saturday, she helped the Pride pull away from USJ with eight points – all coming after halftime – along with five rebounds, two assists, and three steals. She tied her season high for rebounds in the Lasell game as she is now averaging 12.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. It marks her third straight GNAC Rookie of the Week honor, fourth in five weeks, and sixth overall.


WEEK 11 HONOR ROLL

Rah-Rah Thompson, Albertus Magnus (Sr., C - Bridgeport, Conn.) - Thompson collected her 14th double-double of the season in the Falcons' 58-40 road victory over Norwich University on Saturday. She registered 13 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, a steal and two blocks and shot 5-of-15 from the floor.

Loredana D'Agostino, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, F - Broad Brook, Conn.) - D'Agostino put together her most complete week of the year, averaging 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for Emmanuel in a 1-1 week while shooting 51.5% (17-33) from the field. The sophomore was key in an 58-52 road win over Colby-Sawyer, collecting 18 points and eight rebounds while also blocking four shots. She also scored a team-high 17 points while grabbing a game- and career-high 13 rebounds later in the week in a 73-59 setback to Suffolk at home.

Amanda Ortiz, Lasell (Sr., G - Newton, Mass.) - Ortiz averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.5 steals for the Lasers against two of the top teams in the GNAC. She scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds and five steals in a loss to GNAC second-place Regis before tallying 21 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals in a setback to league-leading Saint Joseph's of Maine.

Arie Searcy, Regis (Mass.) (So., F - Santa Rosa, Calif.) - Searcy led the Pride to two conference victories over the past week, extending Regis' GNAC winning streak to five. She averaged 14.0 points (10-22 FG, 8-13 FT) and 4.0 rebounds in 26.5 minutes per game, highlighted by a team-leading 17 points with five rebounds in a 67-51 win over Lasell on Wednesday. On Saturday versus USJ, Searcy scored 11 points – nine of them in the first half as Regis established a significant lead – to go with three boards in just 16 minutes of a 68-31 win. Searcy has now scored 10 or more points in 11 games this season, tied for most on the Pride, as she is averaging 10.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. 

Jenni-Rose DiCecco, Suffolk (Jr., G - Falmouth, Mass.) - DiCecco averaged 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.0 steals in a 2-0 week, as she had 18 points, five boards, six assists and five swipes in a key 73-59 GNAC road victory over Emmanuel.
