GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 9

( FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 13 - 19 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shyla Osmond, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - New Haven, Conn.)

Osmond powered the Falcons to a 1-1 week, helping the team pick up a league win over Colby-Sawyer at home to improve to 11-5 on the year. The senior guard averaged 28.5 points (24-48 FG, 1-5 3PT, 8-13 FT), 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 39.5 minutes per game. She opened the week by scoring 25 points to go along with two rebounds, four assists and a steal in a 65-59 loss on the road at Suffolk before registering 32 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steala in a 79-72 home win over the Chargers.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Pam Gonzalez, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., G - Revere, Mass.)

Gonzalez averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals as Regis won both of their GNAC contests last week. On  Wednesday, she reached 20 points (7-17 FG, 4-8 3PT) for the third time this season, along with nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Gonzalez scored 14 points in the second half against the Wildcats, including seven points in the fourth. On Saturday, Gonzalez finished with eight points, seven rebounds, a season-high six assists and three steals as the Pride handily defeated Rivier. The four-time GNAC Rookie of the Week turned it over just three times in 61 minutes of action.


WEEK 9 HONOR ROLL

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - Cambridge, Mass.) - Ramirez-Tejeda averaged 18.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals in a 2-1 week for the Saints, shooting 51% (25-49) from the floor. After being held to 10 points and 10 boards in a 90-62 loss at Eastern Conn. State, she had 21 points (10-15 FG), six rebounds and four steals in just 17 minutes in a blowout win over USJ. She capped the week with 23 points and 18 rebounds (10 offensive) in a 70-55 win over Anna Maria on Saturday. 

Amanda Ortiz, Lasell (Sr., G - Newton, Mass.) - Ortiz averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals in a pair of GNAC victories. She tallied a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds in a road win Tuesday at Norwich before finishing with 14 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and four steals in Saturday's key 62-59 GNAC triumph over Suffolk, Lasell's first win over the Rams since joining the GNAC in 2007, snapping a 12-game losing streak against the program.

Taylor Iorfino, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., F - Monroe, Conn.) - Iorfino averaged 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Pride, enjoying a career week as Regis won two road GNAC games. After finishing with 12 points an four boards on Wednesday at Johnson & Wales, she went 10-of018 on Saturday at Rivier for 22 points plus seven rebounds in another blowout win. hitting 10-of-18 shots from the field to finish with 22 points along with seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots. For the week, she shot 53.3% (16-30). 

Alyson Fillion, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (So, G - Bedford, N.H.) - In a pair of GNAC wins, Fillion averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 56% (14-25 FG, 6-11 3PT, 5-8 FT) overall. The sophomore guard scored 18 points with seven rebounds in a narrow 46-43 triumph at Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday before netting 21 points (8-13 FG, 3-5 3PT) with four boards in a 70-53 win over Johnson & Wales on Saturday.

Gabriella DeComo, Suffolk (Jr., G/F - Portsmouth, R.I.) - DeComo averaged 15.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. In an impressive victory over conference power Albertus Magnus, she had 19 points (7-14 FG, 1-2 3PT, 4-4 FT) across 27 minutes to help push the Rams past the Falcons, 65-59. In a 62-59 heartbreaking buzzer-beater loss at Lasell, she had 12 points and four boards.
