GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 2

( FOR THE WEEK OF NOV. 18 - 24 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Amanda Ortiz, Lasell (Sr., G - Newton, Mass.)

Ortiz averaged 23.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 5.0 blocked shots in a 1-1 week for the Lasers, shooting 51.7% (15-29 FG, 4-9 3PT, 12-16 FT) overall. Ortiz put up 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists, five steals and seven blocked shots in a win over UMaine Presque Isle, and registered an impressive double-double with 20 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, three blocks and two steals against UMaine Farmington in Lasell's first loss of the season after a program-best four wins to start the campaign.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Pam Gonzalez, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., G - Revere, Mass.)

Gonzalez has quickly emerged as one of Regis' top players, as she helped the Pride earn consecutive home victories in a 2-0 week, averaging 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 5.0 steals while shooting 56.3% (9-16 FG, 5-8 3PT, 6-8 FT). On Wednesday against Fisher, she led Regis with 18 points (7-8 FG, 3-3 3PT), eight rebounds and five steals swithout committing a turnover. On Saturday, she led the Regis defense with five steals as the Pride held WPI to 42 points on 28.3% shooting to go with 11 points and five boards.


WEEK 2 HONOR ROLL

Shyla Osmond, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - New Haven, Conn.) - Osmond powered the Falcons to a 2-0 week, averaging a team-high 24.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals over 39.0 minutes a game. The guard scored a season-high 27 points (10-24 FG, 0-4 3PT, 7-10 FT) to go along with six rebounds, three assists and four steals in a 71-67 win over Springfield. Osmond closed out the week registering 22 points, six rebounds, nine assists and a steal in the win over Fitchburg State.

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - Cambridge, Mass.) - Ramirez-Tejeda registered three more double-double outings in a 2-1 week for the Saints, averaging 18.0 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 55.3% (21-38) overall. The senior opened the week up with a 10- point, 17-rebound, seven-assists effort in a 66-48 win over the NESCAC's Connecticut College. In a 83-35 blowout win over Becker, she poured in 25 points (11-12 FG) and grabbed 10 boards in just 18 minutes of action, and she capped the week with a 19-point, 10-rebound game in a five-point setback at UMass Boston.

Riley Bennett, Norwich (Jr., G - Hopkinton, N.H.) - Bennett has solidified Norwich's backcourt production in her junior season, as the guard averaged 18.3 points on 42.9% shooting, including 10-of-19 (52.6%) from beyond the arc, to help the Cadets to a 2-1 week.

Alexandra Grumblatt, Rivier (So, F - Manchester, N.H.) - Grumblatt averaged 13.0 points and an incredible 19.7 rebounds in a 1-2 week for the Raiders, compiling 20 rebounds in a 62-50 setback at Plymouth State before hauling down 15 boards in a 65-51 loss to UMaine-Farmington. She highlighted the week by exploding for a 23-point (8-18 FG), 24-rebound performance to go with three assists and a pair of blocks on Saturday in an 80-72 win over UMaine Presque Isle. She shot just 31.0% (13-42) from the floor but did go an impressive 13-of-15 from the FT line. 

Alyson Fillion, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sophomore, G - Bedford, N.H.) - Fillion averaged 18.0 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 53.8% (14-26) from the floor and 46.7% (7-15) from three-point distance in a 1-1 week for the Monks. The sophomore guard netted a career-high 26 points (10-17 FG, 5-10 3PT) in a 76-64 victory over Husson on Saturday.

Jenni-Rose DiCecco, Suffolk (Jr., G - Falmouth, Mass.) - DiCecco shot 55.6% (15-27 FG, 4-8 3PT, 11-17 FT) en route to averages of 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week. She had 18 points and six boards in a 67-44 win at Salve before going off for 27 points (8-14 FG, 4-7 3PT) with eight assists and four steals in a 72-61 win over Plymouth State.
