GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 5

( FOR THE WEEK OF DEC. 9 - 15 )

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shyla Osmond, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - New Haven, Conn.)

Osmond powered the Falcons to a 2-0 week, helping the team pick up wins over Old Westbury and Mt. St. Vincent at home to improve to 7-2 on the year. The senior guard averaged 17.0 points (15-26 FG, 1-5 3PT, 3-5 FT), 10.5 rebounds and 9.0 assists in 28.5 minutes per game. She opened the week with her fifth double-double of the season behind 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals in a 66-55 win over Old Westbury before registering her second triple-double of the year in just 25 minutes with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists in a 83-58 win over Mt. St. Vincent.

CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tianna Sugars, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, C - Oxford, Maine)

Sugars averaged 26.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in a pair of Charger road wins. The senior shot 54.3% from the floor and made all 13 of her free throw attempts, while also recording her seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season. Sugars began the week with game-highs of 29 points (11-14 FG, 7-7 FT) and 10 rebounds in just 26 minutes of action in a 70-57 win at NVU-Lyndon. The center ended the week by playing all 40 minutes in the team's impressive 67-64 win at Castleton, as she registered game-bests of 23 points (8-21 FG, 6-6 FT) and 13 boards. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kyah Nowlin, Albertus Magnus (Fr., G - Stamford, Conn.) 

Nowlin averaged 14.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a 2-0 week for Albertus that included wins over Old Westbury and Mt. St. Vincent. The rookie guard shot an impressive 54.4% from the floor and 45.5% from behind the arc. She opened the week with seven points, a rebound, a block and three steals in the win over the Panthers. Nowlin followed up with 22 points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals in the win over the Dolphins. 


WEEK 5 HONOR ROLL

Loredana D'Agostino, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, F - Broad Brook, Conn.) - D'Agostino scored a team-high 16 points while grabbing a team-high seven boards against RIC in the Saints' last game of the semester. The sophomore converted on 7-of-10 shots from the field and added two assists and one block over 34 minutes of action for Emmanuel.

Alexis Hackett, Suffolk (Sr., G - Charlton, Mass.) - Hackett helped Suffolk to a 2-0 week, averaging 17.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 blocks while shooting 50% (12-24 FG, 10-19 3PT) overall. She opened the week by matching personal-bests in both points (23) and three-pointers made (7) in an 82-64 win over Clark to go along with 12 boards for her second straight double-double, fourth of the season, and 29th of her career. Two days later she put together an 11-point, seven-rebound, four-assist, four-steal, four-block effort to help Suffolk defeat Bridgewater State for just the second time in program history.
