GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 12

( FOR THE WEEK OF JAN. 28 - FEB. 3 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brian Hogan-Gary, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., G - Staten Island, N.Y.)

In a 2-0 week that included a GNAC double-overtime road thriller against USJ, Hogan-Gary averaged 33.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals while shooting 54.5% (28-51 FG) overall and turning it over just once in 42.0 minutes per game. He started the week with 31 points, 11 rebounds and six assists across 48 minutes in a 98-97 double OT win at Saint Joseph. In the victory, he hit a buzzer beater with 0.6 seconds left in the first OT to send it into the second OT.

Next on Saturday, in a 90-58 home win over Lasell, he shot an impressive 16-of-22 for a career-high 36 points to surpass the 1000-point mark for his career in just his 51st game. He also had 16 rebounds, six assists (no turnovers) and five steals as he collected his 13th double-double of the season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Chris Childs, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Bronx, N.Y.)

Childs averaged 27.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 50% overall (16-32 FG), an impressive 64.7% from three (11-17), and 91.7% from the FT line (11-12). Trailing by eight with under four minutes to play versus JWU on Thursday night, the rookie sharpshooter rattled off four threes to help get USJ back in it in a contest that featured two buzzer beaters and two overtimes. Childs finished with 22 points (7-15 FG, 5-8 3FG, 3-4 FT), with 15 of them coming in the final four minutes and overtime. He followed that up with a career-high 32 points (9-17 FG, 6-9 3FG, 8-8 FT) in a 78-73 road win at Anna Maria on Saturday.

WEEK 12 HONOR ROLL
Mike Rapoza, Anna Maria (Jr., F - Charlton, Mass.) - In the AMCATS' lone game of the week, Rapoza had 17 points (6-12 FG, 5-8 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a 78-73 GNAC setback at home against USJ. 

Emmett Riddick, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - Middletown, Conn.) - Riddick scored a game-high 28 points in a huge 101-87 win over Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday. In a 1-1 week, heaveraged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists. 

Joe Tamburro, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - South Windsor, Conn.) - Tamburro became the eighth player in EC history to score his 1,000th career point with the Saints, reaching the milestone on Saturday with a 21-point effort in Emmanuel's 101-87 win over the Monks. He averaged 18.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in just 27.5 minutes for the week. 

Ademola Afonja, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., F - Staten Island, N.Y.) - Afonja averaged 28.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week, while shooting an impressive 67.6% (23-34 FG) from the floor. On Thursday at Albertus Magnus, he scored a career-high 32 points (13-20 FG) to tie his own school single-game record for most made field goals (13), and he posted the second-highest single-game scoring total in program history, becoming the first Pride player to score 30+ points in a game in nearly six years. He also had eight rebounds and four blocks against Albertus, before registering a 24-point (10-14 FG), 11-rebound double-double in just 25 minutes in a 101-69 win over Rivier. 

Thomas Duffy, Suffolk (Jr., G - Fairfield, Conn.) - Duffy averaged 22.0 points on 56/46/100% shooting to go with 5.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in a 2-0 week. In a crucial 80-78 road win over Saint Joseph's (Maine), the junior had 12 points, five boards and five assists in 27 minutes, before exploding for 32 points on 11-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-7 from three, to go with six rebounds and seven assists in a win over Colby-Sawyer.
