GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 4

(FOR THE WEEK OF NOV. 26-DEC. 2)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brian Hogan-Gary, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., G - Staten Island, N.Y.)

In the Wildcats' only game of the week, Hogan-Gary was 13-of-22 (59.1%) from the floor en route to a 29-point, 17-rebound double-double against No. 3 nationally-ranked Hamilton. The 29 points were one off his career high and the 17 rebounds set a new career-high for his second double-double of the season. He also added six assists in the loss. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Delshawn Jackson Jr., St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Hartford, Conn.)

Jackson Jr. filled the stat sheet in a 2-0 week for USJ, averaging 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists while turning it over just twice. The 5-10 Hartford product opened the week with 16 points and five assists in an 84-64 road win at USMMA on Tuesday before going for 16 points, six boards and six assists in a big 108-63 victory over MCLA at home on Saturday. He shot 11-of-20 (55%) from the field including 5-of-9 (55.6%) from three.


WEEK 4 HONOR ROLL
Jahrell Spence, Albertus Magnus (Fr., G - Hartford, Conn.) - Spence averaged 14.5 points on 11-of-21 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line, leading the Falcons to a 2-0 week. 

Marcus Fox, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, F - Danbury, Conn.) - In just 26.0 minutes per game, Fox averaged 15.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in a 2-1 week. The sophomore came up huge in a one-point 89-88 win over Westfield State with a 17-point, 16-rebound double-double and then scored a team-high 19 points over Emerson. He added nine points and three assists in a win vs. Rivier to cap the week.

Joe Tamburro, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G) - Tamburro fueled the Saints in a pair of wins, averaging 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds over three contests including a season-high 31 points vs. Rivier on 10-of-15 shooting including seven threes. The senior added a 20-point outing in a thrilling 89-88 victory over Westfield State.

Jesse Davis, Norwich (So., G/F - Woodinville, Wash.) - Averaged 15.5 points over two games with shooting splits of 42.3/27.3/100. Also averaged two assists and two steals per game. Named to Hockenbury Classic All-Tournament team.

Ademola Afonja, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., F - Staten Island, N.Y.) - Afonja averaged 20.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-2 week. On Thursday against Wheaton, he finished with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. On a made free throw late in the first half, he scored the 1,000th point of his career, the fifth player in program history to achieve that milestone.

Chris Childs, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Bronx, N.Y.) - Childs helped get the USJ back on track, averaging a team-high 19.0 points on 65% shooting to lead the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week. The 6-2 rookie guard from the Bronx was 13-of-20 on the week, including 7-of-10 from three, scoring 20 points at Merchant Marine before scoring 18 in 21 minutes against MCLA. 

Jack Casale, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (So., G - Portland, Maine) - In  2-0 week, Casale averaged 26.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 53.1% (17-32) from the field and 63.2% (12-19) from three. In a 103-87 win over UNE on Wednesday, he scored a career-high 38 points (12-21 FG, 9-13 3PT, 5-6 FT) - tying the SJC single-game trifectas made record - to go with 11 rebounds and four assists. He added 15 points and six boards in an 82-56 triumph over Bates on Saturday.

Brendan Mulson, Suffolk (So., G - Albany, N.Y.) - Mulson averaged 17.5 points on 54.2% shooting and 6.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. He contributed 16 points and eight boards in 27 minutes of a 79-61 win at Framingham State on Saturday.
