GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 8

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brian Hogan-Gary, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., G - Staten Island, N.Y.)

Hogan-Gary produced a 28-point, 12-rebound double-double – his second in row – at Division I opponent Cornell on Friday, including 18 points in the second half of the 76-61 loss. He was 13-of-20 from the field. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Delshawn Jackson Jr., St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Hartford, Conn.)

Jackson Jr. averaged 22.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 54/69/89 in a 1-1 week for the Blue Jays, in which he turned it over just four times. In a 98-95 setback at Western Connecticut State, the rookie had 24 points (7-14 FG, 4-6 3PT, 6-6 FT) to go with five assists in 34 minutes. He followed up with 21 points (7-12 FG, 5-7 3PT, 2-3 FT) and three rebounds in just 23 minutes of a blowout victory over Lesley. 

WEEK 8 HONOR ROLL
Marcus Fox, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, F - Danbury, Conn.) - Fox scored a team-high 20 points on 5-of-10 shooting with eight rebounds in 25 minutes to help the Saints pick up an 82-67 GNAC win over Rivier on Sunday. The sophomore was 10-for-10 from the free throw line to tie an Emmanuel single-game record for attempts without a miss.

Isaiah Ruffen, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - Haverhill, Mass.) - Ruffen registered 12 points (4-8 FG, 3-4 FT) to go with 16 rebounds and five assists across 27 minutes in Emmanuel's 82-67 GNAC win over Rivier. The 16 boards was both a game and season-high for the senior while the five dimes registered a new career-best for Ruffen.

Ademola Afonja, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., F - Staten Island, N.Y.) - Afonja averaged 27.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals while shooting an impressive 66.7% (22-33 FG) in two games last week. On Wednesday in a 90-82 setback against Fitchburg State, he set a Regis single-game record with 13 field goals on just 17 attempts as he scored a career-high 29 points in 29 minutes to go with four steals. In just 25 minutes on Saturday at Pine Manor, he notched the 17th double-double of his career with 25 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 9-of-16 from the field and 7-of-9 from the FT line. 

Steven DiPrizio, Suffolk (Jr., F - Medford, Mass.) - DiPrizio had 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting (66.7%) to go with 11 rebounds and five assists in a 68-66 road victory over UMass Boston on Thursday.
