GNAC Baseball Report: Week 8

( FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 15-21 )

PLAYER / ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 

Kosta Drosidis, Anna Maria (FR, INF - Holden, Mass.)

Drosidis hit .750 (9-12) with five runs, two homers, six RBI, three walks and a stolen base in a 3-1 week for the AMCATS, posting a 2.074 OPS. He had three-hit games against Elms and Rivier and reached base four times against Mass Maritime. He is now just two round-trippers shy of the Anna Maria single-season record, along with his 35 RBI.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK 

Parker Browne, Suffolk (So., P - Shrewsbury, Mass.)

The second-year righthander allowed just one hit without surrendering a walk over 4.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts to get the win in a 6-5 win over Curry on Wednesday. 


WEEK 8 HONOR ROLL
Tyriq Harris, Albertus Magnus (Sr., OF - Waterbury, Conn.) - Harris went 5-for-10 at the plate in a 3-0 week for the Falcons with a double, five runs and four RBI en route to an impressive .500/.455//600 slash. In the 13-2 win over Pine Manor, he collected three hits over five at bats to go with three runs, a double and two RBI. He also chipped in two hits, two runs and two RBI in the doubleheader sweep at Colby-Sawyer. 

Elijah Spataj, Albertus Magnus (Fr., OF - Cheshire, Conn.) - Spataj slashed .455/.538/.818 in a 3-0 week for the Falcons, going 5-for-11 with four doubles, two runs, five RBI and two stolen bases. In the 13-2 win over Pine Manor, Spataj went 4-for-4 with three RBI, a run scored, two stolen bases and a season-best three doubles. He also went 1-for-7 with a run, a double and two RBI in the doubleheader sweep against Colby Sawyer. 

Brendan Barrett, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, SS/2B - Nashua, N.H.) - Barrett led the Chargers with a .444 batting average in five games last week. He had at least a hit in each of the five games to increase his hit streak to seven-straight. He slugged .500 and knocked in four runs. His best game came in a 5-4 win over Saint Michael's of Division II. He went 3-for-5 with two RBI. 

Adam Diehl, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., C/OF - Cypress, Texas) - Diehl went 6-for-7 (.857) with two doubles, two runs and four RBI in two games for a .900 OBP and 1.143 slugging percentage (2.043 OPS)... Went 5-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI versus Roger Williams ... Went 1-2 with a run and 3 RBI versus UMass Dartmouth. 

Chris O'Connor, Lasell (Jr., P - Duxbury, Mass.) - Posted a win and a save in two relief appearances with a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings of work. He earned a save in a win over Dean, allowing one run on two hits in 1.2 innings of work, and he earned a win against Norwich with four scoreless innings of relief work, surrendering just one hit and one walk, striking out five.

Joe Sullivan, Lasell (Jr., C - East Sandwich, Mass.) - Sullivan had multi-hit performances in all four games – all wins – for the Lasers last week, including 2-0 in the GNAC. He batted .600 (9-15) with two doubles, one home run, four runs scored and eight RBI. He went 3-for-5 with a double and five RBI in a win over Dean College; he was 2-for-3 against Pine Manor with the game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning; he had two hits in both GNAC victories over Norwich, with a double and an RBI in the opener and a home run and two runs scored in the nightcap.

Zach Begin, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (2021, P - Georgetown, Mass.) - Begin tossed four innings of two-hit relief with six strikeouts in a victory over Colby-Sawyer on Friday.

Jared Gagne, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, OF - Dover, N.H.) - Gagne hit a scorching .727 (8-11) with four runs, a double, triple, home run, four RBI and five stolen bases in a 3-0 week for a 2.042 OPS. On Friday, the senior right fielder was 4-for-6 with two runs, a two-bagger, a round-tripper, and two steals in a conference sweep over Colby-Sawyer. Earlier in the week, Gagne reached base four times and went 2-3 with two runs, a triple, two RBI, and three stolen bases in a 12-4 triumph over Endicott College.

Will Hopkins, Suffolk (So., OF - Old Rochester, Mass.) - Hopkins went 3-for-8 with a double, three runs and two RBI in a 1-1 week for the Rams.
