GNAC Baseball Report: Week 7

( FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 8-14 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK 

David Marsell, Lasell (Sr., 2B/P - Baldwinsville, N.Y.) 

Hit safely in all four games for Lasell in a 2-2 week, collecting three hits in three of the four games. For the week, he batted .625 (10-for-16) with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. He was 3-for-4 and 1-for-4 with an RBI in each game in a doubleheader sweep of Rivier, and went 3-for-4 in both ends of a doubleheader loss to Suffolk. He also pitched 7.2 innings at Suffolk on Sunday, allowing just three runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out two before losing the game in extra innings.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK 

James Smiegocki, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., P/DH - Lambertville, N.J.)

Only gave up one unearned run in a game-two victory over Suffolk on Saturday, striking out seven while issuing just one walk and three hits.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Elijah Spataj, Albertus Magnus (Fr., OF - Cheshire, Conn.)

Spataj slashed .375/.545/.750 in a 3-0 week for the Falcons, going 3-for-8 with three runs, three doubles and five RBI. The rookie hit safely in two of the three games, including a two-hit performance behind a season-high two doubles in the 7-2 win over Mt. St. Vincent. 


WEEK 7 HONOR ROLL

Mike Browne, Albertus Magnus (Sr., IF - New Fairfield, Conn.) - Browne enjoyed another fine week for the Falcons and recorded his 100th career hit in the 3-2 win over Mt. St. Vincent this past weekend. He went 6-for-13 (.462) with an RBI and a five runs. He went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the team's 7-2 win against Worcester State. In the doubleheader sweep against Mt. St. Vincent, Browne went 4-for-8, including a three-hit performance in game two, with four runs scored and a RBI.

Shawn McFeggan, Albertus Magnus (Jr., P - Anaheim, Calif.) - McFeggan posted a 0.00 ERA over 7.0 innings for the Falcons, striking out three and walking four batters. He threw 1.0 innings and allowed no runs and no hits in the Falcons 7-2 win over Worcester State. The junior closed out the week earning the win on the mound after throwing 6.0 innings of work with one run on four hits and struck out three in the 3-2 win over Mt. St. Vincent. 

Jack Marzec, Anna Maria (So, RHP - Northbridge, Mass.) - Jack help the AMCATS to a sweep over Colby-Sawyer with a two hit complete game with eleven punch outs. Marzec was able to back up his last start that went into extras after giving St. Joseph's College a challenging task at the plate. 

Derek Griffin, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, P/1B - Lebanon, N.H.) - Griffin tossed 8.0 innings last week and did not surrender a run in two appearances. He began the week with a scoreless inning of relief in a 5-1 loss to Anna Maria on Saturday. Griffin then earned the start on Sunday and threw a complete game shutout in the team's 2-0 win over Norwich. The freshman scattered three hits and struck out seven to earn his second win of the season. For the week he had a 0.00 ERA and 7.88 K/9.

Adam Diehl, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., C/OF - Cypress, Texas) - Hit .455 with a .533 on base percentage ... Had a hit in all four games ... Produced two hits a run and an rbi against Salve Regina ... Drove in a run in game one against Suffolk and had a double in game two. 

Kevin Lynch, Norwich (Sr., OF - Randolph, Mass.) - Lynch went 5-for-13 on the weekend with a double, a triple and two RBI. He scored two runs and drew one walk as well. Kevin did the majority of his damage at the plate in Sunday's 12-0 win at Colby-Sawyer, going three-for four with a double and a triple, scoring two runs and adding two RBI. He batted .385 on the week. 

Jake Ryan, Norwich (Sr., P - Arlington, Mass.) - On Sunday at Colby-Sawyer, Ryan was dominant on the mound once again for the Cadets, tossing six innings of shutout baseball. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out five batters to improve to 2-3 on the season. 

Matt Bergeron, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Freshman, RHP - Salem, N.H.) - Bergeron was masterful in his only outing last week, as the freshman righthander tossed a complete game shutout with four hits allowed and four strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Norwich University on Saturday. Bergeron walked just one batter and threw only 71 pitches in the conference triumph.

Drew Healey, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Junior, IF - Rochester, N.H.) - Healey hit .385 (5-13) with six runs, a home run, and five RBI in a 4-2 week for the Monks. The junior second baseman set the tone for the weekend with a grand slam home run to the deepest part of Larry Mahaney Diamond in the first inning of an 8-0 win over Norwich on Saturday.

Blase Cormier, Suffolk (So., 1B - Wayland, Mass.) - Cormier hit .368 with two doubles, five runs and six RBI in a 3-2 week.
