GNAC Baseball Report: Week 1

(FOR THE WEEK OF FEB. 23 - MARCH 3)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK 

Colby Greenhalgh, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., C - Plainfield, Conn.)

JWU started the season with a 5-1 mark, as the Wildcats won all five games Greenhalgh was behind the plate. The junior hit .500/.522./.955 and had a hit in all five victories, with four multi-hit game, including three doubles, two triples, a homer, eight runs scored and eight RBI. He went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI versus Benedict and also went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI against Manchester. 

 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Josh Mousseau, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., P - Woonsocket, R.I.)

The senior threw eight innings with a career-high eight strikeouts against Manchester in a 7-1 win. He only surrendered one earned run on two hits with two walks. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Matt Motyka, Lasell (Fr., INF - Vernon, Conn.)

Motyka went 3-for-5 with three RBI on Sunday as Lasell swept its season-opening doubleheader against Newbury. He went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the opener, a 9-2 win, and was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the nightcap, an 11-1 victory.


WEEK 1 HONOR ROLL
Liam Cunningham, Anna Maria (So, RHP - Northbridge, Mass.) - Cunningham had two saves, striking out four over 3.2 scoreless innings, spanning three appearances. 

Noah Holland, Anna Maria (So., C1B - Sandwich, Mass.) - Holland slashed .471.524/.647 as Anna Maria began the season 4-1 down south. He went 8-for-17 with three doubles, four runs and five RBI, including a three-hit performance in a 6-4 win over Northern Vt.-Lyndon

Zach Handzel, Lasell (Jr., P - Palmer, Mass.) - Handzel earned the victory in Lasell's season opener, a 9-2 win over Newbury, pitching five shutout innings and allowing just three hits and no walks, striking out five.

Brett Sherron, Lasell (Sr., 1B - Howard Beach, N.Y.) - Sherron went 4-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI on Sunday as Lasell swept its season-opening doubleheader against Newbury, slashing .800/.750/.1400. He went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI in the opener, a 9-2 win, and was 2-for-3 with two doubles in the nightcap, an 11-1 victory. 

Hunter Richardson, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (2021, IF - Monmouth, Maine) - Richardson slashed .571/.571/1.000 in SJC's opening two wins over Northern Vt.-Lyndon, including three hits with three runs in the Monks' 9-6 season-opening victory.
