GNAC Baseball Report: Week 4

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 18-24 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK 

Colby Greenhalgh, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., C - Plainfield, Conn.)

The Week 1 GNAC Player of the Week claimed his second honor in four weeks amidst a 3-1 week for the Wildcats. The junior backstop slashed .538/.647/1.077 for a 1.724 OPS, going 7-for-13 with a double, two home runs, seven runs, five RBI, three walks and a pair of stolen bases. He had two hits in three of the four games, including a two-homer performance with three RBI in a 10-8 setback against Eastern Connecticut State. He was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI in a GNAC sweep of Rivier on Sunday as JWU opened up league play. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK / CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Matt Bergeron, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Freshman, Pitcher - Salem, N.H.)

Bergeron performed very well in a pair of appearances versus 2018 NCAA Tournament teams last week, as the freshman righthander posted a 1.00 ERA with five strikeouts and just five hits allowed in nine innings against UMass Boston and Franklin, both on the road. In a 3-1 victory over Franklin on Saturday, Bergeron allowed a lead-off home run and cruised for the remainder of the game, allowing just three hits while fanning five against the mid-east power to earn the victory. He also threw two scoreless frames, allowing just one hit, in a 9-8 loss at UMass Boston. 

CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Elijah Spataj, Albertus Magnus (Fr., OF - Cheshire, Conn.)

Spataj slashed .400/.500/1.000 in a 1-2 week, going 4-for-10 with six RBI, two runs scored, two home runs (including a grand slam) and two walks in a 1-2 week for the Falcons. The rookie was crucial in the doubleheader split at Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon as the outfielder opened the day going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, a run scored and a home run in a 11-5 loss, before putting together a 1-for-3 effort at the dish in the nightcap, to go along with a walk, a run scored, four RBI and a home run/grand slam in a 11-10 win.


WEEK 4 HONOR ROLL
Kosta Drosidis, Anna Maria (FR, INF - Holden, Mass.) - Kosta was the spark this past week for the AMCATS, hitting .412 (7-17) with five runs, one double, one triple, one homer and 10 RBI in a 1-4 week. 

Josh Mousseau, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., P - Woonsocket, R.I.) - Against Rivier on Sunday, the senior threw his first collegiate complete game in the Wildcats' GNAC opener, a 7-1 victory. He allowed just one unearned run on six hits and a walk while striking out a career-high 11 batters.

Greg Emanuelson, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sr, Catcher - Hudson, N.H.) - Emanuelson continued to rake last week, as the senior catcher hit .545 (6-11) with three runs, a double, a home run, and five RBI in three games versus 2018 NCAA Tournament participants. He was 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, a homer, and two RBI in a 9-8 loss to UMass Boston on Wednesday and drove in all three of the Monks' runs and went 3-for-4 in a 3-1 triumph over Franklin on Sunday.

Charles Batchelder, Suffolk (Sr., P - Shrewsbury, Mass.) - Batch threw a seven-inning complete game shutout against Norwich on Sunday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three at home. 

Tim Brigham, Suffolk (Jr., INF - Cape Elizabeth, Maine) -  Brigham slashed .381/.409/.714 in a five-game week for the Rams, which included three victories and a tie with MIT. Brigham was 8-for-21 with three two-hit games, four doubles, a home run (against Brandeis), four runs and eight RBI.
