GNAC Baseball Report: Week 3

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 11-17 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK 

Joey Murphy, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, SS - Derry, N.H.)

In a doubleheader sweep over Clark University on Sunday, Murphy hit .625 (5-8) with three runs, two doubles, a home run, three RBI, and three stolen bases. He led off the lid-lifter with a solo homer and was 2-for-4 with a steal and went 3-4 with two runs, two doubles, two RBI, and a pair of stolen bases in the nightcap. For the day, he posted a 1.250 slugging percentage with a .667 OBP and fielded all eight chances without an error.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Tim Unczur, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, UTL - Danvers, Mass.)

Unczur had a big week both on the mound and at the plate. He allowed no runs on six hits with six strikeouts (two walks) in 9.0 innings pitched, highlighted by a five-hit complete game shutout against Becker to earn the team's first win. He began the week with 2.0 innings of work with one hit and a two strikeouts against Olivet. Offesnively, the junior led the team with a .462/.462/.538 slash line, going 6-for-13 with a double. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Matt Bischof, Lasell (Fr., DH - Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.)

Batted .476 (10-for-21) with four RBI and three runs scored in a 4-3 week for the Lasers. He hit safely in six of the seven games, and had a four-hit game against Finlandia. He also walked twice to finish the week with a .542 on-base percentage.


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL
Tyriq Harris, Albertus Magnus (Sr., OF - Waterbury, Conn.) - Harris went 9-for-16 at the plate in a 5-2 week with two triples, eight runs, two RBI and two stolen bases en route to an impressive .563/.667/.813 slash. He had multi-hit performances in four of the seven games, including a three-hit effort in the win over Wells. Harris also had a game in the 7-1 win over Dean as the senior outfielder went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. 

Phillip Antonucci IV, Anna Maria (Jr, OF - Revere, Mass.) - Antonucci was a triple shy of a cycle to open up the week, going 3-for-4 against NEC. He was 5-for-10 with a run and two RBI in three games.

Tim Lombardi, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., IF/C - Providence, R.I.) - Hit. .400 with a .600 slugging during a doubleheader split at Mass Maritime, scoring three runs and driving in two more in the game-one victory.

Andre Marchesseault, Lasell (Sr., INF - Cheshire, Conn.) - The senior slashed .435/.552/.609, going 10-for-23 with four doubles, seven RBI, six runs scored and six walks in a 4-3 week for the Lasers. He hit safely in six of the seven games, and had a pair of three-hit games against Finlandia and St. Joseph's (LI). He drove in five runs in a doubleheader sweep of Finlandia.

Jorge Martinez, Rivier (Sr, INF - Methuen, Mass.) - Martinez helped guide Rivier to a 2-1 week as he .500 (7-for-14) with a home run and seven RBI. In the team's 14-12 win over Pine Manor, the veteran infielder collected three hits including a solo home run and a two run double. He also chipped in with a pair of doubles and two RBI in the 9-4 win over Emerson. 

Rich Gilbride, Suffolk (Jr., SS - Beverly, Mass.) - Gilbride slashed .350/.462/.600 in a 2-4 showing, going 7-for-20 with two doubles, a homer, six runs, five walks, seven RBI and two stolen bases. He had a four-RBI game and homered in a 10-4 win over Fitchburg State on Friday.
