GNAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #12

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jakara Murray-Leach, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G/F)

Senior guard/forward Jakara Murray-Leach was dominant in the paint for the Falcons this past week, averaging 20 points with 14 rebounds in an undefeated week in conference play. The Norwalk, Conn. product put up 19 points and nine rebounds in a home victory over Emmanuel while collecting two steals defensively. She followed up her performance with a monstrous 21 point, 19 rebound double-double in a huge home victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), helping extend the Falcons’ win streak to five. Murray Leach has reached 10 games this season with 10+ rebounds and now has nine double-doubles which ties her for first in the conference in that category.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Isabella Suero, Johnson & Wales (Fr., G)

First-Year guard Isabella Suero was on fire for the Wildcats this past week, averaging 26.5 points per game on 52.8% from the floor, including 48.4% from deep in a 2-0 week for JWU. The Newburgh, N.Y. native started her week with 19 points, including five threes, in a victory over Lasell and the first-year followed up with a game-high 34 points, including 10 threes over Norwich while collecting six rebounds and five assists in the road victory. Suero not only leads the conference in threes made but she is currently the Division III leader as well with 79.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Caitlyn Scott, Albertus Magnus - Scored 26.5 points a game with 5.5 rebounds/assists apiece and three steals in an undefeated week in conference play. Had 19 points with six rebounds, four assists, and three steals over Emmanuel and followed up by scoring 34 points with five rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and two blocks over USJ.

Diamond White, Albertus Magnus - Averaged 19.5 points a game with 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals. Put up 14 points, six assists, and four steals over Emmanuel and followed with 25 points and three assists over USJ.

 

Camryn Lewis, New England College - Had a breakout week for the Pilgrims, averaging 15.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game on 57.1 percent shooting in just 17 minutes per game. Put up 11 points, six rebounds in a win over Regis and then dominated at Mitchell on Saturday, scoring 19 points while pulling down 17 boards - both career highs - in just 19 minutes of action.

 

Lyric Grumblatt, Rivier - Averaged 24.0 ppg on 48.6% shooting from the field, including 37.5% from three-point range to go along with 7.5 rpg, 3.5 stl/g, and 2.5 ast/g in a 2-0 week. Helped the Raiders snap a 12-game skid to Saint Joseph's (Maine) in the all-time series with 23 points, nine rebounds, and five steals against the Monks. Followed up with 25 points on 9-for-13 from the floor with six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in just 18 minutes on the road against Reigs.
