GNAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week Report #5

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lyric Grumblatt, Rivier (Sr., G/F)

Senior guard/forward Lyric Grumblatt had a phenomenal week, helping Rivier to a 3-0 record, including a pair of victories at Wesleyan’s Courtyard by Marriott Classic Tournament. Grumblatt started strong on Tuesday (Dec. 3) with a double-double in a 64-49 win over Framingham State, tallying 19 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. On Saturday (Dec. 7), she notched another double-double with 20 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks in a commanding 79-57 victory over Salve Regina. She finished the week with her best performance in Sunday’s (Dec. 8) 70-63 win against Utica, exploding for 31 points on 57.9% shooting (11-of-19), including 50.0% from deep (3-of-6), and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Grumblatt also added eight rebounds, three assists, and six steals. She currently leads the GNAC in both total points (242) and points per game (26.9), both of which place her in the top-three currently in DIII Women's Basketball.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Isabella Suero, Johnson & Wales (Fy., G)

First-year guard Isabella Suero recorded a career-high 21 points in the Wildcats’ 88-61 win over Salem State on Wednesday (Dec. 4). In 29 minutes of action, she added five assists, three rebounds, and two steals while shooting 55.6%, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, helping the Wildcats improve to 6-0 on the season. Suero was also perfect from the free-throw line going 4-of-4.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Caitlyn Scott, Albertus Magnus - Notched a double-double in the Falcons' only game this week, a 72-61 win over St. Joseph's (L.I.). The senior tallied 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. She also had four assists, three steals, and one block in the win. 

Marinique Reddin, Anna Maria - Dropped 26 points in the Amcats' 90-61 win over Fitchburg State, shooting an impressive 80.0% (12-of-15) from the field. The senior also contributed six rebounds, six assists, four steals, and a block in the victory.

Jamya Beddoe, Mitchell - Opened up conference play with a career-high 29 points in the Mariners' 86-83 overtime win against Dean. The junior shot 4-of-11 (36.4%) from beyond the arc and 9-of-13 (69.2%) from the free-throw line, adding five rebounds, an assist, and a steal to help the team improve to 2-2 on the season.

Jordyn Streitmatter, Mitchell - Posted a career-high 26 points in the Mariners' 86-83 overtime win against Dean while shooting 44.4% (4-of-9) from beyond the arc. She also added nine rebounds, two steals, and one assist. 

Taylor Verboven, Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Led the Blue Jays during their 1-1 week, averaging 19 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. In a 70-64 victory over defending GNAC champions Saint Joseph’s (Maine), she posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 50.0% from the field and a perfect 100% from the free-throw line.
