GNAC Men's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #11

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brenden Joyce, Lasell (Gr., OH/OPP)

Graduate student Brenden Joyce was an instrumental piece to Lasell’s 4-0 week. He had a .386 hitting percentage, which led to a 3.08 kills per set average. He had three double-digit kill showings, including finishing 13 attacks in in a 3-2 win over No. 1 Wentworth. He followed that up with 10 kills against Dean in a three-set sweep. His final big performance came in a 3-1 win over Rivier in, which he completed 15 attacks with just one error. In addition to his kill numbers, Joyce also had four aces on the week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Theo Zaharewicz, Lasell (Jr., OH)

Junior Theo Zaharewicz contributed in a big way to two of Lasell’s victories this week, including a win over No. 1 Wentworth on Tuesday (March 26). He had 11 digs in that five-set win and two blocks. Later in the week, he contributed six digs and two more blocks to a 3-1 win over Rivier. For the week, he averaged 1.89 digs per set and 0.44 blocks per set.

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Jesus Garcia, Lasell (Gr., S)

Graduate student Jesus Garcia eclipsed the 40-assist plateau in both matches he participated in this week for Lasell. He started with 47 helpers in a five-set win over No. 1 Wentworth, adding nine digs, two blocks, and a kill to the performance. Followed that up by setting up 45 finishes in a 3-1 win over Rivier. He also had a kill, a block, and six digs against the Raiders. For the week, he averaged 10.22 assists per set.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sebastian Menchaca, Rivier (Fy., OH)

First-year outside hitter Sebastian Menchaca played a crucial role in Rivier’s 3-1 victory over Dean on Saturday (March 30). He had 13 kills, seven digs, and a block in the match, which averaged out to 4.33 kills, 2.33 digs, and 0.33 blocks per set. He also swung at a .435 rate in the match.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Pedro De Jesus, Elms - Averaged 5.00 kills per set with a .304 hitting percentage as Elms went 1-2 in a trio of conference matches. Also had three service aces.

Collin Liedke, Elms - Had 20+ assists in all three contests for Elms this week, averaging 8.89 assists per set. Also pitched in 30 digs for a 3.33 digs per set.

Dominic DeFerrari, Emmanuel - Handed out 35 assists in a three-set victory over Elms, averaging 11.67 assists per set. Also recorded seven digs in the match for a 2.33 digs per set average.

Trey Guest, Emmanuel - Finished 13 attacks with a .407 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of Elms. Also had two aces against the Blazers.

Nick Sciabica, Emmanuel - Recorded eight digs in a three-set sweep of Elms, averaging out to 2.67 digs per set.

Alessandro DiPaola, Regis - Dished out 27 helpers in 3-0 sweep of Elms, averaging 9.00 assists per set. Also pitched in nine digs it the match.

Orlando Plagata, Regis - Contributed seven digs to a 3-0 victory over Elms, averaging 2.33 digs per set.

Joseph Perez, Regis - Recorded 16 kills with a .306 hitting percentage in a 3-0 sweep of Elms. Also had six service aces in the match.

Sokunbuth Ly, Rivier - Averaged 4.14 kills per set in two matches for Rivier. Reached double-digit kill numbers in both contests and hit at a .468 rate.

Neil Rea, Rivier - Averaged 10.29 assists per set accross two matches. Also had 2.00 digs and 0.86 blocks per set in the 1-1 week.
