GNAC Men's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #7

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Michael Shelley, Emmanuel (So., OH)

Sophomore outside hitter Michael Shelley was a major contributor to Emmanuel’s 3-2 GNAC victory over Regis this week. He finished the match with 24 kills and six aces, while hitting .246. The 24 finishes gave him a 4.80 kills per set average, while his six aces averaged out to 1.20 per set.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Trey Guest, Emmanuel (So., RS)

Sophomore right side Trey Guest had another strong all-around defensive effort as he helped Emmanuel to a five-set win in its only match of the week. He had 19 digs and seven block assists in the match, averaging out to 3.80 digs and 1.40 blocks per set in the win.

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Neil Rea, Rivier (Sr., S)

Senior setter Neil Rea orchestrated the Rivier offense to two victories over Elms this week, contributing 11.83 assists per set. He dished out 34 helpers in the first match, before pitching in for 37 in the second. In addition to his assist numbers, Rea also had 10 digs and 6 kills in the doubleheader.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Thomas Smith, Wentworth (Fr., S)

Wentworth freshman Thomas Smith stepped in to dish out 30 assists in the Leopards’ 3-0 GNAC sweep of Emerson. The 30 helpers in the sweep averaged out to 10.00 assists per set. He also have five digs and one kill in the victory.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Collin Liedke, Elms - Averaged 3.60 digs per set in three matches for Elms. Had double-digit dig performances in a three-set match against Endicott with 14 and a four-setter against Rivier with 15.

Dominic DeFerrari, Emmanuel - Averaged 9.60 assists per set, recording a career-high 48 in a five set loss to Regis.

Joseph Perez, Regis - Averaged 5.00 kills per set, swinging at a .293 rate for Regis. Had team-high 17 kills through the first three sets against Emmanuel before missing the rest of the match due to injury.

Orlando Plagata, Regis - Averaged 3.71 digs per set in two matches for Regis. Had a match-high 22 digs in a five-set loss to Emmanuel.

Grant Wojcik, Regis - Averaged 9.57 assists per set in two matches for Regis. Recorded 23 helpers in a three-set win over Dean before contributing 44 in a five-set loss to Emmmanuel.

Chris Lezon, Rivier - Recorded 1.67 blocks per set in a doubleheader against Elms. He had identical stat lines in both matches with one solo block and four block assists in each match, giving him a total of 10 blocks on the day. Also recroded three digs per contest.

Sokunbuth Ly, Rivier - Averaged 4.00 kills per set, recording 12 apiece in a doubleheader against Elms. Hit .348 across the two contests and also recorded three service aces.
