GNAC Men's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #3

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jordan Shinaut, Lasell (Jr., OH)

Junior outside hitter Jordan Shinaut helped Lasell to a 2-1 week with victories over MIT and Endicott. He averaged 3.22 kills per set and hit at a .350 clip. Shinaut was especially efficient against MIT on Wednesday (Jan. 31) as he had 14 errorless attacks, resulting in nine kills and a .643 hitting percentage. He reached double-digit kills against the Gulls with 11 as the Lasers earned the sweep. He had nine more kills in a three-set loss to Springfield to close out the week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Carter Phillips, Lasell (Jr., MB)

Junior middle blocker Carter Phillips did just that this week for Lasell as the Lasers played to a 2-1 week. He averaged more than a block per set, recording 11 total in nine sets for a 1.22 per set average. He opened the week with three solo blocks in a three-set win over MIT. He followed that up with five blocks in a sweep of Endicott and three more denials in a three-set lost to Springfield.

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Jesus Garcia, Lasell (Gr., S)

Graduate student Jesus Garcia averaged 8.67 assists per set this week, helping Lasell earn a 2-1 record. He had 30 helpers in the Lasers opening match of the week as they swept MIT and followed that up with a 26-assist performance against Endicott. He was in double figures again in Lasell's final match of the week against Springfield. He had 22 assists in that contest, but his team fell 3-0. Garcia also had 12 digs, four kills, and five total blocks on the week.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Nick Uschmann, Elms (Fr., RS)

Freshman right side Nick Uschmann averaged 2.73 kills, 1.36 digs, and nearly a block per set for Elms this week across three matches. His best performance came in a three-set win over Bard as he put down 13 kills on 20 errorless attacks for a .650 hitting percentage. He also had four of his blocks in the contest. In another match against Bard, a five-setter, he reached double figures again with 12 kills, while also picking up six more blocks. He hit .354 for the week.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Rafa Artero, Elms - Was a wall at the net in Elms' three matches, averaging over a block per set at 1.36. Denied 10 attacks in five-set setback to Bard on Saturday (Feb. 3).

Pedro De Jesus, Elms - Averaged 3.55 kills per set this week in a 1-2 week. Recorded double-digit kills twice, both against Bard. Hit .239 for the week across three matches, playing 11 sets.

Dominic DeFerrari, Emmanuel - Averaged 9.00 assists per set in Emmanuel's only match of the week, collecting 27 in a sweep of Brooklyn.

Andrew Matzouranis, Regis - Averaged 2.88 kills per set and a .439 hitting percentage in a 1-1 week for Regis. Had 14 kills in a four-set win over Manhattanville on Friday (Feb. 2).

Neil Rea, Rivier - Averaged 8.38 assists per set, including a 24-assist performance in a four-set loss to MIT and a 35-assist match in a sweep of Ramapo.
