GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 13

( FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 10 - 16 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jack Casale, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, Guard - Portland, Maine)

Casale led the Monks to a pair of important conference victories last week while averaging 27.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game, while averaging 51.4% (18-35 FG, 8-18 3PT, 11-15 FT). In a 90-81 win over Emmanuel on Wednesday, the junior guard netted 33 points with 10 rebounds and seven assists. He capped the week with 22 points and 13 rebounds in an 83-80 triumph over Regis on Saturday.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

John White, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., F - Boston, Mass.)

White scored a season-high 21 points in a 99-71 GNAC win over Rivier, shooting 80% (8-10 FG, 4-6 3PT, 1-1 FT) from the field. He also had three rebounds and two assists.


WEEK 13 HONOR ROLL

Jahmerikah Green-Younger, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - Norwalk, Conn.) - In just 24.5 minutes per contest, Green-Younger averaged 28.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Falcons, while shooting 66.7% (20-30) from the field, 58.3% (7-12) from behind the arc and 76.9% (10-13) from the free-throw line. He opened the week scoring his 1,000th career-point in the Falcons 105-97 win over Lasell behind a career-high 32 points and three rebounds. He followed up by scoring a team-high 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. in a 103-77 win against Norwich. 

Marcus Fox, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, F - Danbury, Conn.) - Averaged a double-double over two GNAC contests for Emmanuel with 16.5 point and 12.0 rebounds per game for the Saints. Fox recorded 16 points and 14 rebounds to open the week vs. Saint Joseph's (ME) before a 17-point, 10-rebound outing vs. #22 USJ.

Bryan Davis, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., G - Miramar, Fla.) - Had a career-high 27 points along with 10 rebounds in the win over Rivier ... Shot 84.6 percent from the floor. 

Kevin Vanderhorst, Lasell (Jr., F - Lawrence, Mass.) - Vanderhorst averaged 18.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in a pair of GNAC losses, with two double-doubles. He scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a setback at Albertus Magnus and totaled 19 points and 16 boards in a loss to Anna Maria.

Juvens Dalger, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., F - Oakland Park, Fla.) - Dalger tied a Regis single-game record during the week. In Wednesday's game against conference leader USJ, Dalger hit eight three-pointers in 11 attempts, tying the program's single-game record for made three-pointers as he finished with a career-high 28 points along with eight rebounds. Saturday at Saint Joseph's, he hit two more three-pointers on his way to a 13-point, seven-rebounds performance, plus he dished out three assists. Dalger, who missed the first seven games of the season recovering from an injury, averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the week, and has made 29 three-pointers (.408) this season after hitting just 21 long distance shots in his first two seasons.

Delshawn Jackson Jr., St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., G - Hartford, Conn.) - Jackson Jr. had another impressive week as the Blue Jays went 2-0 once again, ran their winning streak to 20 straight, and clinched the GNAC regular season title to earn the league's No. 1 seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. In a pair of GNAC road victories, Jackson Jr. averaged 27.0 points and 2.5 assists on the week, connecting on 46.3% (19-41) of his attempts from the field, 41.7% (10-24) from three, and 85.7% (6-7) from the free-throw line. 'DJ' opened the week with 23 points (8-18 FG, 5-12 3FG) on Wednesday evening in a 91-73 victory at Regis before going off for 31 points (11-23 FG, 5-12 3FG) and five assists in a crucial 95-83 triumph at Emmanuel on Saturday. After Emmanuel, who was tied for second in the GNAC standings entering Saturday's contest, raced out to an 11-point lead in the first half, it was Jackson Jr. who single-handedly brought the Blue Jays back with 20 first-half points to take a 46-43 edge into halftime versus the Saints. DJ is currently third in the league in scoring at 21.2 points per game. 

Jonathan Eng, Suffolk (Sr., G - Wayland, Mass.) - Eng averaged 16.5 points on an impressive 78.6% (11-14 FG, 8-11 3PT, 3-4 FT) shooting in a 2-0 week.
