GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 5

( FOR THE WEEK OF DEC. 9 - 15 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mike Rapoza, Anna Maria (Sr., F - Charlton, Mass.)

Rapoza averaged an astounding 23.5 points, 23.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the AMCATS, as the senior shot 46.2% (19-38) overall and was 11-of-13 from the FT line. After a monster 20-point, 26-rebound effort in a 78-71 win at Framingham State, the Charlton, Mass. native went off for 27 points (10-14 FG, 7-8 FT), 21 boards and four assists in an 87-83 overtime victory against Mitchell on Saturday. The 26 caroms against Framingham State set a new program record and Rapoza has now double-doubled in every game this season. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Zack Caraballo, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, G - Salem, N.H.)

In just 17 minutes of action, Caraballo posted a career-high 14 points to help the Chargers earn a 95-92 road win at NVU-Lyndon. He was 4-of-7 (57.1%) from the floor, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, while adding five rebounds and two assists. 

 

WEEK 5 HONOR ROLL

Marquan Watson, Albertus Magnus (Fr., F/G - Waterbury, Conn.) - Watson heated up for 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting over just nine minutes of action in an 86-61 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. He also was 3-of-3 from the FT line and added three rebounds as the Falcons won their ninth straight. 

Zach Crisafulli, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - Easthampton, Mass.) - Crisafulli scored a team-high 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting plus five rebounds, three assists and two blocks to power Emmanuel past Pine Manor, 99-60, closing out the first semester. The win helped the Saints improve to 8-2 on the year, the best start in program history through 10 games.

Brian Hogan-Gary, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., G - Staten Island, N.Y.) - The reigning GNAC Player and Defensive Player of the Year was named MVP of the Doc Greene Tournament at Juniata by averaging 28.5 points and 12.0 rebounds, while turning it over just three times total in 38.0 minuter per game. He double-doubled in the two victories and shot a stellar 62.5% (25-40) from the floor. After registering 27 points and 13 boards in the opener against Penn State Abington on Friday, he posted a season-high 30 points – including 18 second half – to go with 11 rebounds in the tourney title game versus Juniata. 

Kevin Nunez, Lasell (Jr., G - Dorchester, Mass.) - Nunez averaged 24.5 points in a 1-1 week for the Lasers, shooting 60.7% from the field (17-28), 80% from three-point range (-5), and 73.3% from the FT (11-15). He scored a game-high 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting in a road loss at Worcester State before pouring in a game-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-4 from three, in a road win at Husson.
