GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 10

( FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 20 - 26 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jack Casale, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Junior, Guard - Portland, Maine)

Casale enjoyed a monster week, averaging 37.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in a pair of conference contests. The junior guard scored a career-high 48 points with 13 rebounds in an overtime road loss at nationally-ranked Albertus Magnus on Saturday after netting 26 points with six boards and seven assists in a 98-83 triumph over Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday. Casale's 48 points is the third-highest mark in SJC men's basketball history and sixth-most scored in an NCAA DIII game this winter. He is the only NCAA men's basketball player – at any level – to have scored at least 45 points in two different contests this season. He shot 48% overall (24-50), including 8-of-21 (38.1%) from three-point range and 18-of-21 (85.7)from the FT line.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Taelon Martin, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Springfield, Mass.)

Martin continued to impress during his rookie campaign, helping lead the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week and run their winning streak to 14 straight games after picking up a pair of GNAC wins. The freshman averaged 12.5 points and 2.5 steals in just 15.5 minutes per game off the bench. The 6-5 guard was stellar shooting the rock on the week, connecting on 12-of-15 (80.0%) attempts from the floor, including five thunderous dunks. Martin opened the week with eight points (4-4 FG) and a steal on Tuesday in a 99-83 triumph over Suffolk before exploding for 17 points and four steals on Saturday in a 101-66 rout of Rivier. It marks his third straight GNAC Rookie of the Week and fourth overall. 


WEEK 10 HONOR ROLL

Terry Dawkins, Albertus Magnus (So., F - Bronx, N.Y.) - The sophomore forward averaged 16.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting an impressive 54.2% (13-24 FG) from the floor in a pair of overtime victories last week. In a 80-75 overtime win over Regis (Mass.), Dawkins recorded his first collegiate double-double behind a 20-point, 15-rebound performance as well as scored the tying layup with four seconds on the clock to send the game into overtime. He capped the week scoring 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals in a 99-93 win over Saint Joseph's (Maine). 

Tyreek Perkins, Albertus Magnus (Jr., G - New Haven, Conn.) - Perkins averaged 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists to power the Falcons to a 2-0 week in conference play. After playing just seven minutes in a 80-75 overtime win over Regis (Mass.), Perkins capped the week by scoring a season-high 32 points to go along with six rebounds, six assists, two steals and three blocks in a 99-93 overtime win over Saint Joseph's (Maine). 

Bobby Perette, Anna Maria (Sr., G - Marshfield, Mass.) - Perette Helped the AMCATS go 2-0 this week against conference opponents, averaging 25.5 pooints on 50% shooting (18-36), including a red-hot 54.5% (12-22) showing from three-point range. He led Anna Maria to a 92-64 win over Rivier with a 26-point effort and also put up 25 against Regis to help gain their third GNAC win. Against Regis, Perette hit seven three-point shots.

Dana Bean, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, C - Franklin, N.H.) - In a 1-1 week, Bean registered 18 points, nine rebounds and two assists in both contests while shooting a staggering 78.3% (18-23) from the floor.
He began the week with a stellar 9-of-10 shooting performance in a tough 98-83 loss at Saint Joseph's (Maine) before finishing going 9-of-13 to help the Chargers defeat Johnson & Wales, 71-63. 

Marcus Fox, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, F - Danbury, Conn.) - Fox posted a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for Emmanuel, averaging 22.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting a blistering 65.4% (17-26 FG, 1-2 3PT, 10-11 FT) from the field. He recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds in a huge 86-84 road OT win over JWU before dropping a 26 points to go along with 13 rebounds in just 25 minutes of action in an 88-50 victory versus Norwich. 

Emmett Riddick, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, G - Middletown, Conn.) - Riddick averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 2-0 week for Emmanuel. The senior guard netted a team-high 27 points in the Saints' 86-84 OT win over JWU before coming one rebound shy of a double-double in an 88-50 victory over Norwich in which he scored 16 points to go with nine boards.

Brian Hogan-Gary, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., G - Staten Island, N.Y.) - The senior standout stood out despite an 0-2 week for the Wildcats, averaging 28.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 54.2% (26-48 FG, 0-3 3PT, 5-9 FT). He scored a season-high 37 points with 11 rebounds against Emmanuel and came back with a game-high 20 points and 12 boards at Colby-Sawyer.

EJ Day, Lasell (So., G - Norwalk, Conn.) - Day averaged 28.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in a 2-0 week for Lasell, shooting an even 50% from the field (18-36), 54.5% from three (6-11), and 71.4% from the FT line (15-21). He scored 24 points in a 90-77 victory over Norwich, and poured in 33 points while collecting nine rebounds, three assists and five steals in a 94-83 overtime win over Suffolk University. He scored eight of his game-high 33 points in overtime against Suffolk as Lasell scored the final 13 points of the game to improve to 3-0 in the GNAC.

Delshawn Jackson Jr., St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., G - Hartford, Conn.) - Jackson Jr. helped power USJ to a 2-0 week as the Blue Jays ran their winning streak to 14 straight games after picking up a pair of GNAC wins. He logged a pair of 20-point games, averaging 24.5 points and 3.0 assists in 29.5 minutes per contest over the two-game span. The 5-10 guard was once again stellar shooting the rock on the week, connecting on 14-of-23 (60.9%) attempts from the floor, including an impressive 10-of-14 (71.4%) from three. DJ was also nearly perfect from the FT line, converting on 11-of-13 (84.6%) of his attempts. Jackson Jr. opened the week with 23 points and four assists on Tuesday versus Suffolk in a 99-83 triumph over the Rams before pouring in 26 points and dishing out a pair of assists on Saturday in a 101-66 rout of Rivier.

Jordan Powell, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Jr., G/F - Middletown, Conn.) - Powell shot an astounding 90.5% (19-21) from the floor en route to 22.5 points in just 19.0 minutes per game in a pair of GNAC victories. He currently leads the GNAC and is sixth in the nation in FG percentage (66.9%) after a breakout game on Tuesday versus Suffolk where he finished with a career-high 32 points (14-15 FG) in a 99-83 triumph, before logging 13 points (5-6 FG) and four rebounds in just 11 minutes on Saturday in a 101-66 rout of Rivier.

Brendan Mulson, Suffolk (Jr., G - Albany, N.Y.) - Mulson averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a two-game week for the Rams.
