GNAC Men's Basketball Report: Week 12

( FOR THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 3 - 9 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mike Rapoza, Anna Maria (Sr., F - Charlton, Mass.)

The AMCATS went 2-0 this past week in conference action led by Rapoza, who averaged 29.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while shooting a stellar 75.9% (22-29 FG, 14-23 FT). After registering 20 points (10-14 FG) and eight boards in an 81-64 road win over Saint Joseph's of Maine, he went off for 38 points (12-15 FG), 16 rebounds and four assists in a ahrd-fought 77-74 over JWU on Saturday. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Taelon Martin, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Springfield, Mass.)

Martin had one of his most consistent weeks of the season to capture his fifth GNAC Rookie of the Week award, helping lead the Blue Jays to another 2-0 week and run their winning streak to 18 straight games after picking up a pair of GNAC wins. He averaged 16.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in just 19.0 minutes per game off the bench. The 6-5 guard was stellar shooting the rock on the week, connecting on 13-of-20 (65.0%) attempts from the floor, including 6-of-9 (66.7%) from beyond the arc. Martin opened the week with 19 points (8-13 FG, 3-5 3PT) and four rebounds on Tuesday night in a 94-57 triumph at Lasell before going for 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-4 3PT) and two rebounds on Saturday at home in a 113-73 rout of Saint Joseph's (Maine)


WEEK 12 HONOR ROLL

Davon Warner, Albertus Magnus (So., G - New Haven, Conn.) - In just 19.5 minuters per contest, Warner averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a 2-0 week for Albertus, shooting an impressive 48.3% (14-29) from the field and 50% (13-26) from behind the arc. He opened the week scoring 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in the 97-80 win at JWU. He followed up by scoring a career-high 27 points behind a personal-best nine three-pointers, to go along with a rebound and two assists in a 108-94 road win over Rivier. 

Dana Bean, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, C - Franklin, N.H.) - Bean averaged 18.5 points on 57.1% shooting (16-28) and 10.0 rebounds (4.0 offensive) in a 1-1 week for the Chargers. He began the week with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with nine rebounds, three assists and a couple of blocks in a tough road loss at Emmanuel. The senior ended the week with team-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds to help the Chargers defeat Lasell, 72-68, on Saturday. 

Marcus Fox, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, F - Danbury, Conn.) - Fox lifted the Saints to a 2-0 week with a pair of double-doubles in GNAC action, averaging 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 57.1% (12-21 FG, 2-5 3PT, 7-10 FT) from the field. The junior opened with a 19-point, 10-rebound outing in an 89-70 win over Colby-Sawyer before a 14-point, 11-rebound contest versus Suffolk. 

Jack Moulder, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, F - Newtown, Conn.) - In a 2-0 week, Moulder scored a career-high 24 points (8-15 FG) with four rebounds in Emmanuel's 89-70 GNAC win over Colby-Sawyer, shooting 50% from behind the arc (6-12) in the victory. He also had seven points and six boards in 21 minutes against Suffolk for per-game averages of 15.5 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 55% (11-20) from the field.

Donovan Lewis Jr., Norwich (So., F - Savannah, Ga.) - Lewis Jr. has stepped up his play in the second half of the season and this week averaged 23.5 points while missing just two shots from the field in a 1-1 week for the Cadets. The sophomore forward added 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists to his line during the teams two games. Lewis Jr. had the best game of his career against Lesley scoring the nets for 39 points on 17-of-18 shooting while adding seven rebounds and four assists in a 78-67 win. He followed that up by scoring eight points in just 10 minutes against Regis on Saturday. 

Marc Trinidad, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., F - Bronx, N.Y.) - Trinidad averaged 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week as he continues to provide an inside presence for the Pride. He finished with nine points and eight rebounds at Conn. College on Tuesday night. On Saturday at Norwich, he notched his ninth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds and four steals, including 11 points, four rebounds and three steals after halftime. 

Delshawn Jackson Jr., St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., G - Hartford, Conn.) - Jackson Jr. had another solid week as the Blue Jays went 2-0 once again and improved their winning streak to 18-straight games. Jackson Jr. averaged 18.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in 26.0 minutes per game on the week. The Hartford product was superb shooting the rock in the pair of wins, connecting on 13-of-26 (50.0%) from the field, including 6-of-14 (42.9%) from beyond the arc. He was also 4-of-5 (80.0%) on the week from the charity stripe. Jackson Jr. opened the week with nine points, three rebounds, and three assists in 24 minutes in a 94-57 route at Lasell on Tuesday night. 'DJ' then followed that up with a game-high 27-point performance (9-16 FG, 5-9 3FG, 4-4 FT) to go with two rebounds and five assists in 28 minutes, as the Blue Jays toppled Saint Joseph's (Me.) at home on Saturday, 113-73.

Nicholas Curtis, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Sophomore, Guard - Windham, Maine) - Curtis averaged 21.5 points per game while shooting 47.8% (11-23) from three-point distance in a pair of contests last week. The sophomore sharpshooter netted 35 points with nine three-pointers made versus Anna Maria on Tuesday.

Max Bonney-Liles, Suffolk (So., G - Hudson, N.H.) - Averaged 19.0 points while shooting an impressive 62.5% (15-24 FG, 7-12 3PT, 1-3 FT) in a 1-1 week for the Rams.
