GNAC Field Hockey Report: Week 6

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 30 - OCT. 6 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sam Taylor, Lasell (Sr., F - Hanover, Mass.)

Taylor collected three goals and one assist in a pair of Laser games (1-1, 1-0 GNAC). She scored both of Lasell's goals Wednesday in a 3-2 non-conference loss to Roger Williams, and she tallied one goal and one assist in Saturday's 5-3 GNAC victory over Johnson & Wales. She assisted on the first goal of the game to put Lasell up 1-2 in the second quarter, and she scored the final goal to seal the victory with 2:30 remaining in the game.

 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Lucy McNamara, Simmons (Jr., GK - Brewster, Mass.) 

The junior was outstanding in the cage, facing 33 shots on goal over 120 minutes of action in a total of two matches, while stopping all but two of them to record a staggering .939 save percentage. The keeper registered at least 14 saves in both matches she appeared in. McNamara recorded a career-high 17 saves and allowed just one goal at Smith College on October 1. The keeper turned away 14 of 15 shots vs. Saint Joseph's College (Maine) to cap the week on October 5.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sheridan Blaha, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., F - Waltham, Mass.)

Blaha once again led the Regis offense in a 1-1 week, registering four goals, all of which came in a 6-0 win on Wednesday over future conference rival Dean. It was her second four-goal match of the season.  Entering the weekend, Blaha was 10th in Division III with 1.22 goals per game, and she is just two goals away from Regis' single season goals record of 13 set in 2016.


WEEK 6 HONOR ROLL

Rachel DeVore, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., M - Beltsville, Md.) - Junior midfielder Rachel DeVore registered a goal in an assist in Johnson & Wales lone game of the week against Lasell Univeristy on Saturday afternoon. The Maryland native scored in the Wildcat second goal in the fourth quarter before connecting with teammate McKayla Weaver on the team's third goal and pull within a goal of the Lasers.

Alexa Gutowski, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Fr., F - Conway, N.H.) - Gutowski scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Simmons on Saturday to keep the Monks unbeaten (3-0) in GNAC play.
