GNAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 5

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 24-30)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cíara Forde, Simmons (Sr., M - Quincy, Mass.)

In three matches, the senior tallied 11 points on five goals and an assist with at least two points in every match. The midfielder tallied a pair of goals in a 5-0 win over Newbury College on September 25 and netted two more the following night to help the Sharks to a win over Anna Maria College. The Tri-Captain capped the week with a goal in a 2-1 win at Regis (Mass.) on September 29 to give her a seven-match point-streak for the longest such streak at Simmons since 2007.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Colleen Lynch, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., GK - New Milford, Conn.)

Lynch allowed one goal (0.33 GAA) in 270 minutes as the Wildcats won a trio of games, including two GNAC contests... Overall, Lynch made 11 saves with a .917 save percentage, including six stops in the win against Coast Guard ... Posted back-to-back shutouts versus St. Joseph & Emmanuel... Lynch has only allowed one goal in her last 352 minutes in between the pipes.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Emily Zeblisky, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., F - East Northport, N.Y.)

Recorded a trio of goals in three wins ... Had two goals to start the week against Coast Guard ... Produced the game-winner at St. Joseph... Overall, converted 42.9 percent of her shots into goals for the Wildcats. 


WEEK 5 HONOR ROLL 

Kennedy Davignon, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr., D/GK - Woodstock, Conn.) - Davignon did a little bit of everything over two matches for the Saints, playing stellar defense in Emmanuel's backfield during a 1-0 shutout victory over Regis College before being called upon in goal against Johnson & Wales after the Saints starting goalie went down due to injury. The back-up keeper stepped in and kept the potent Wildcats offense scoreless over the final 40 minutes of action, making two saves for a 1.000 save percentage.

Lexi Gawron, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr., GK - South Hadley, Mass.) - Gawron posted her third shutout of the season in a key 1-0 victory over Regis College, making five saves on the road to keep the Pride off the scoreboard. The junior played well in a 1-0 defeat to Johnson & Wales before leaving the game due to injury but finished the week with a .857 save percentage and a .064 goals against average over 140+ minutes of work.

Julia Koron, Norwich (Fr., D - Pittsford, N.Y.) - Koron scored twice to help Norwich to a crucial 3-3 tie with the Univ. of St. Joseph on Friday night. She scored twice in the second half to put the Cadets up 3-1 and help NU get its first result against the Blue Jays since 2011. Koron has five goals and one assist for 11 points this season.

Kasey Smith, Rivier (Jr., GK - Hopkinton, N.H.) - Smith was electric in goal for the Raiders in their only game of the week. The junior earned the clean sheet 1-0 win over Suffolk University as she made seven saves on the afternoon. This was also Smith's first career clean sheet. 

Kayley Mattos, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Fr., F - Mahopac, N.Y.) - Mattos scored the game-winning goal with six minutes remaining in a 2-1 victory at Norwich University on Wednesday. 

Gabriella Cacia, Simmons (First Year, M - Watertown, Mass.) - In three matches, the first year tallied three goals for six points. The midfielder scored a goal in the Sharks 5-0 victory over Newbury College on September 26 and netted two more goals the following night in a victory over Anna Maria College.

Lauren Williams, Simmons (Sr., GK - Bowdoinham, Maine) - In three matches, the senior posted a 0.67 goals against average in 270 minutes of action, while making 11 saves to register a .846 save percentage in a 3-0-0 week. The keeper was untested in a 5-0 shutout of Newbury College on September 25 and came back the next night to stop two of three shots in a victory over Anna Maria College. Williams capped the week by stopping nine of 10 shots to preserve a 2-1 triumph over Regis (Mass.), which outshot the Sharks by a 22-12 count.
